I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but there has been more and more rich Asians.
Not as rich as the “Crazy Rich Asians” you see in the movie, but still pretty damn rich.
And especially in Vancouver, where I live, you see them driving around in Lamborghinis, Rolls Royce, Range Rovers, Bentleys, etc.
Have you ever wondered…
How did they get so rich?
Because, let me tell you, we weren't always rich. In fact, China was one of the poorest countries just half a century ago.
So what changed?
Well, there are many factors (economic and political) but today I want to tell you about a much more personal and psychological reason.
It stems from a piece of ancient Chinese wisdom.
In Chinese, it’s called “吃苦” (pronounced chi ku).
Translated into English, it literally means “eat bitter”.
I know it doesn’t sound too pleasant, but trust me - the results are amazing.
This is the spirit that many Chinese embodied throughout the years and I believe it’s what separated them from the rest of the world.
And I think we have a lot to learn from this.
But what does “eat bitter” really mean?
To put it simply, it’s a mindset.
It’s a mindset of enduring pain.
It’s a mindset of doing the things you know you should do, even when you don’t want to.
It’s a mindset of taking risks towards a better life, even when it’s terrifying.
With this mindset, the Chinese were able to immigrate to America, endure decades of discrimination, find the few opportunities available, and capitalize on those opportunities.
With the mindset of “eating bitter”, they were able to create wealth from even the meekest of circumstances.
But you might be thinking, why does “eating bitter” work?
Simple.
Think about what the opposite of “eating bitter” is.
It’s to “crave sweets”.
It’s to go after the short-term gains, the temporary pleasures, the empty rewards.
If the Chinese lived by this philosophy, all they would be doing is eating donuts, checking twitter, and watching Netflix...
Not the best recipe for success.
So, what does any of this have to do with you?
A lot.
See, you don’t have to be Chinese to “eat bitter” or to reap the rewards of “eating bitter” - because all it takes is a decision.
All it takes is a decision that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to create a better life.
To create a better life for your family, or your friends, or that one person who believed in you, or maybe… just yourself.
But all it takes is a decision to “eat bitter” today.
Now, I’ve gotten a lot of questions from my fans around the world asking me:
“Okay Dan, so I’m ready to eat bitter, but what should I do?”
And the answer I give them is always the same…

CHAPTER III:INDIA, ITALY AND I
India has captivated my imagination for years, and I’ve returned again and again for its diverse culture and experiences. From the Indian music playing on the minibus after we landed in Kashmir, to the bumpy ride with my loopy friends; the boathouse on Dal Lake; all-night prayers during Ramadan; and the dawn tweets of the Bird Party —how could I resist capturing it through music?
My knowledge of Italy stems from my ongoing visits/tours in recent years; reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love; watching Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus; and, of course, the many travel shows, movies and books about the country. But none of them could accurately capture what it’s like to dive into the Sicilian sea, lick mouthwatering gelato, savor aromatic cappuccino, consume tear-shedding pizza in Naples, down amaro digestive, and the multitude of “dolci”. Beyond the beautiful sceneries and food, the vivid statues dotting the streets of Rome, fountains sprouting around the windy streets (where at the turn of a corner, you’d often hear “Ciao bella!"), immersed in such a landscape propelled me to a place a long, long time ago …
Where Alice in Wonderland, or the “Alice” in Für Elise, are both 33 years old taking on wondrous journeys, wandering through Wonderland, like me.

VLOG UPDATE WEEK 8:
Confession! I was suppose to stick to my nutrition plan but for 1 and a half days i just went... screw it all i want to eat more cake and junk that wouldn't be good for me. I paid the price, but i'm back to focusing.
The training program has now changed to a strength phase and my nutrition has become a lot stricter. It should've been strict to begin with and it was but now just a lot more. Especially in regards to my carbs. NO MORE BANANA!
Body issues or insecurities also played a role in this episodes. You go through a number of emotions as a female doing this, i suppose. Stems from times when we are the most critical bout our own physique, how we think people will judge you... but in all honesty, we shouldn't care. I'm learning to not care and just keep focus on building a better me. And i think everyone needs to realise that too. :)
Thanks again for joining me on this journey and I'll see you all next Monday!

We’ve tried so many pork bellies in our lives
but after trying this world’s best pork belly, that melts in your mouth
you won’t be satisfied with the ones at restaurants...It’s that good.
The pork belly braised in the rich sauce of pork, fish broth, umami from onions
has a richness and umami that makes you extremely happy after one bite.
Because of the preparation process, you won’t feel the smell or the excess fat
and we finished 3 cups of rice, easily.
It’s delicious to eat as soon as it’s cooked
but you can also enjoy it the next day, when the pork belly and soft boiled eggs both absorbed the flavour more.
Please make sure to give it a try.

4.砂糖 50g(甘めです)を入れ、溶かす。
Perfect for summer! Here is how to make a delicious fruit tea from frozen fruit. You can also make a tasty tea soda by adding 200 ml of unsweetened sparkling water. Maybe fruit tea will be the next tapioca drink?
*Preparation*
Let's make the fruit ice pops (fruit popsicles).
1. Put the fruit of your choice in the mold, pour in the fruit juice, and chill in the freezer until solid. It is better to use a clear fruit juice than a cloudy one.
We think it is best to remove the strawberry stems since they are harder to eat and add mint leaves instead.
2. Puree half of a baby pineapple's flesh, pour in a mold, and chill in the freezer until solid.
Let's make the iced tea.
3. Put two tea bags in 300 ml of boiling water and steep for 2–3 minutes.
4. Add 50 g of sugar (for a sweeter drink) and dissolve.
5. Pour the above over 200 g of ice and let it cool.
6. Pour the above into glasses and enjoy with the frozen fruit from steps 1 and 2 added in.
7. It is more delicious than you think. Isn't fruit tea great?

Requested by our daughter, we made some soap. It's really easy because it's made with glycerin soap and all you have to do is melt it in the microwave, pour it into a mold, and wait for it to solidify. A word of caution; it's inedible because it's soap!
Recipe:
1. Cut glycerin soap into pieces between one to two centimeters. It can be cut easily because it's so soft.
2. Place (1) into a heat resistant container and heat for about ten seconds in a microwave oven. If it's not completely melted, you can heat for a few additional seconds while keeping an eye on it.
3. Use food coloring to dye (2). Gel coloring can be used as it is, but it is rather difficult to apply. I recommend using it after dissolving with a small amount of water.
4. If you want to add a fragrance, now would be the time to do it. I used essential oils. (You can also use aroma oils or plant extracts).
5. Pour the mixture into a mold.
6. Take it out when it solidifies (about one hour later) and let it dry for about a day.
Points to note:
・Stir gently to prevent bubbles from forming.
・ Essential oils should be added at a ratio of 0.5% to 2% of the amount of glycerin soap. One drop of essential oil is about 0.05ml. For 100ml of glycerin soap, add about 10 to 30 drops of essential oil. They can be added bit by bit.
・If the soap starts to harden while you're in the middle of preparing it, reheat it again in the microwave before pouring it into the mold.
・If small bits and pieces (like strawberry stems or the dark lines of watermelon) fall out, you can readjust them just before the soap solidifies.
・When pouring into the mold, large bubbles formed on the surface can be erased by spraying anhydrous ethanol.
・The seeds were made by placing black soap on an oven sheet and stamping them out using a straw.
・If you want to make an opaque soap, add a small amount of white glycerin soap chips (0.5gm for 100gm of glycerin soap). It can be added when you are melting the soap in the oven, or can be added afterwards as well.
