One of my proudest moments as a content creator in Boracay Island, Philippines is being able to do what I am passionate about- and that is creating something meaningful. Today, WaterColors Beach Café Bar raises the LGBTQ flag to let everyone travelling to Boracay that people like us, are supported, celebrated, and safe at this hotel and restaurant.

Why is a rainbow flag so important to be seen at an establishment for people like me, or probably people like us?

It does not necessarily mean, it's owned by someone or a group of people from the community. It was explained to me in Amsterdam that it's a symbol of inclusivity and support to the community. I was told that, it is a symbol that everyone in the community, straight or not, are welcomed, and most especially, people like us are celebrated, supported and safe.

To me, it is not just a symbol of the LGBTQ community. It is a symbol that we are SAFE when people like us go to any establishments with the rainbow flag being hung.

It’s a simple thing to some, but it has an enormous impact to most.

《我的幸福5/2 週末》

*週日下午兩點誠品信義書店「廿世紀典範人物」新書分享會，我下午二時開始演講，離上次在台灣大學公開演説。快半年了！分享會報名一小時預告已額滿，但TVBS電視台慷慨的支持。派出SNG車，屆時TVBS文茜的世界周報YouTube 及世界周報Facebook 都將同步直播。

*新書分享會後我將直奔高雄衛武營，參加劉孟捷（李斯特巡禮之年）鋼琴獨奏會。這是劉孟捷回台，最重要的一場音樂會，我目睹他用盡了一切心力。過去即使21歲時在費城代打缺席大師的音樂會，劉孟捷都未曾如此緊張。他此次回台，手術前為了沒有遺憾，共舉行三場音樂會：其中4/17與5/30皆是與國家交響樂團NSO合作：530那一場指揮是呂紹嘉。但他告訴我，某些曲目對他而言，是Piece of Cake ：惟獨衞武營這一場，曲目由他自己決定，現場錄影，並且找了金曲獎錄音師同步錄音。

劉夢捷明白他即將面對一個大手術，手術風險之外，他的免疫系統疾病，將使他的康復之路更長。

沒有人可以預知未來，為了圓他的夢，醫院每天都要求他早上、晚上量血壓，報告直接傳給院長。振興醫院院長魏崢雖然是亞洲第一把心臟外科醫師，但也不敢大意。

畢竟這個人的生命那麼脆弱，他的心臟主動脈剝離，那是實質的「心碎」了：但他仍有詩，仍有音樂夢。在生命的交接處，在白日與黑夜的交义口，劉孟捷想為他的音樂生涯，留下最美好的紀錄。

他選擇了李斯特。

在這場音樂會前，他甚至以英文寫下了自己與音樂、疾病的半生回顧：如李斯特的巡禮，有仰望，有沉思，有失落，有幽微的疼痛。他以詩篇般的演奏模式，傾訴，詠嘆。他曾得到天賦，也走過死蔭的幽谷。命運是一層又一層的黑影逼近，老天爺隨時想帶走他。

而他已不再流淚，不再沉浸於悲愴告別：因為對他而言活著並不容易，他要讓自己更深刻的抓住每一分時光之美。

如果時間和空間，正如哲人們所形容的
都是不實際存在的東西：那從不感到衰敗的太陽，也不會比我們了不起多少！

他如艾略特的詩句中所形容的：我們為什麼要如此貪心總在祈禱，想活上整整一個世紀？

蝴蝶雖僅活了一天，已經歷了永恆。

當他的身軀如露水還在藤蔓顫抖時，他送給我們一場「完全浪漫又超技的李斯特」。

等音樂會結束了，至少有一張CD，一段YouTube 影像：不論孟捷代表生命的那朵鮮花是否枯萎，他彈奏如天使的音聲不會飛離，它會停留在那夜，繼續釋放芬芳。

這是盡生命之力、之情獨奏的音樂會。劉孟捷説：這樣當他走進手術室時，會少一點悲傷。

或許快樂的日子本來就不多，但讓這場「完全李斯特．完全劉孟捷」的獨奏會放出神聖的光彩吧！

我必將赴會，不會錯過！我知道此刻的獨奏會，很難複製，因為它綜合了太多的情感、愛念，釋放與生命的抒情。

*劉孟捷為此次獨奏會寫下的文字：This past year has seen some unprecedented changes in the world. Many lives have been lost and many have changed. The world has changed while many of us confront the uncertainty of the future.

For most musicians, life has changed. For months, we have been conducting our lessons online, and concerts have mostly stopped or become an online experience as well. More time has been spent learning how to improve the online teaching experience than one could have imagined. While I have felt the duty to continue teaching, the format the pandemic requires for teaching leaves me unwilling to spend more time than I have to.

And truly, I have had other things to deal with. When the pandemic started to worry the American public in March, I was in the middle of a tour with the String Quartet-in-Residence at Curtis, the Vera Quartet. However, our concerts were canceled, and everything came to a sudden halt.

I felt the universe had sent me an unexpected gift, as I had also just received some terrible news concerning my worsening aortic arches and a diagnosis of kidney cancer. The sudden halt in my professional schedule seemed perfect in its timing. I was able to settle into a monastic existence, to simply practice and attempt to heal.

I see many musicians itching to be concertizing again, and many stepped into new territory, performing on the internet. Many took time to develop new podcasts, and to write new materials for their art. Sadly, many have struggled as they have fallen into desperation without any concert incomes. Altogether the music industry seems to be in peril, and many worry about how music and musicians will survive.

However, I had my own survival to think about. Having been through many difficult experiences in my life, I knew this might be the most difficult I would encounter. My Doctors describe me as a walking time bomb. My condition could be lethal at any moment if my blood pressure gets out of control. So while others wrestle with the fate of the music industry, I’ve needed to face my own fate and mortality.

Playing concerts can mean many things to people. At different times throughout my life, I’ve felt the need to express different aspects of myself. When I was young, I wanted to embody the spirit of romanticism, playing lots of Chopin and Schumann. Then there was a period of time when I wanted to challenge myself by showing off pyrotechnics. I had a brooding period where I turned to the pathos of Rachmaninoff, and then felt the need to return to the purity of Schubert and nobility of Brahms. Throughout this pandemic, I wanted to play Bach. Through Bach’s music I found a kind of spiritual sanctuary.

In considering the program for this concert, I felt again the urge to play music that reflects my current feelings and state of mind. The title of today’s recital, “Years of Pilgrimage” seems to fit exactly what I am experiencing.

Liszt wrote several volumes of “Années de pèlerinage” throughout his life to reflect on thoughts he had during his travels. He links his philosophical thoughts to the scenery which inspired them. “Au Bord d’un Source” describes feelings of rejuvenation while standing next to a clear stream of water, a symbol and source of life and energy. It seems to say, when the stream is so pure, life can be so full of joy.

In the Les jeux d'eaux à la Villa d'Este (The Fountains of the Villa d'Este), the water has a magical and supernatural quality, as Liszt himself wrote in the inscription: "But the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life,"( from the Gospel of John.)

For me, I have never felt more connected to Liszt than when he looked upon the valley of Obermann and questioned the meaning of existence. At this moment in my life, I often find myself reflecting my experiences of what I see and read into philosophical musings. Perhaps many people come to a time when this is so.

In all this I have felt gratitude for the love stories and sonnets that one can romantically indulge in, and for storms so violent that they threaten to destroy one’s spirit, even the hell-bound journey which brings up questions about the purpose of life…

On this journey, I felt full and alive as a human being. Looking back on this journey, I am grateful for everything, whether happy or sad, to have made an impact, found and imparted meaning to this life.

The unusual time of this pandemic has marked a milestone for me. I have journeyed back home, and as it happened, this is the first time I have spent so much time in my hometown Kaohsiung in over 35 years. It’s particularly nostalgic to play these pieces as some of them were significant in my early musical career. Vallée d’Obermann was the piece I played in my first competition at the junior high school level, in which I won first prize on the national level, which allowed me to be qualified to apply for a special permission to study abroad. This meant my dream to be educated as a musician could be continued in an environment where I could develop fully. In the following year when I was 13, I won the first Asia-Pacific Youth PIano Competition with the Dante Sonata. The competition catapulted me into national attention as I was headlined in several newspapers, and especially since it was held in Kaohsiung, I became a local hero as well. During the same event, I had a fateful meeting with one of the important influences in my life, Mr. Gary Graffman, who then mentored me throughout not only the years when I was studying at Curtis, but throughout my illness and recovery as a pianist. Right before I departed to study in Philadelphia, I played my first solo recital throughout Taiwan, and along with the Dante Sonata, I also performed the three sonnets.

It’s perfect that now, back in Kaohsiung, all these memories have flooded back into my head. I feel so lucky to have been born here, and to have met my first teacher, Chin-Li Lee, who inspired me on the path to become a musician. Prof. Alexander Sung filled me with dreams of becoming an artist. I am grateful for his belief in my talent, when he chose to give a 12 year old such philosophical pieces to play.

Having once again spent some months in Kaohsiung, I can freshly appreciate the source of inspiration it once was for me. I have returned to the source to heal. Having already glimpsed hell’s gate several times, battered and weathered by the storms of life, I know there is a reason life is this way, and it all will be alright.

파격적인 변신이 돋보이는 다섯 번째 미니앨범 [CRYSTYLE]




2017년 1월, CLC가 변신과 함께 새로운 도약을 준비한다. 이번 미니 5집 [CRYSTYLE]은 ‘CLC 만의 스타일’이라는 의미로 미니 4집 [NU.CLEAR]의 ‘아니야’로 이미 검증 받은 CLC만의 예쁘고 엉뚱한 매력이 극대화 됨과 동시에 성숙해지고 카리스마가 강해진 모습을 확인할 수 있다. 큐브 소속 선배인 현아의 타이틀 곡 ‘도깨비‘ 작사에 참여하며 CLC의 파격적인 스타일과 음악적 변신을 응원했다. 또한, 그 동안 CLC의 전곡 랩메이킹에 참여하며 실력을 쌓아온 멤버 예은이 본격적으로 ‘Mistake’와 ‘미유미유(Meow Meow)’, ‘말이야’까지 수록된 세 곡의 작사에 참여하며 이번 앨범에 대한 기대감을 높였다.




타이틀 곡 ‘도깨비’는 기존의 귀엽고 깜찍한 CLC에서 한껏 파워풀하고 유니크한 매력으로 대중들에게 확실한 인상을 남기겠다는 포부가 담긴 EDM TRAP(트랩) 장르의 곡으로, 국내 최고 걸크러시 솔로 여가수이자, 큐브 선배인 현아가 CLC멤버들을 위해 직접 작사에 참여하며 화제를 불러일으켰다. 좋아하는 상대에게 적극적으로 어필하며 마음을 홀리는 여자 도깨비라는, 전에 없던 캐릭터의 이야기가 담긴 재미있고 참신한 가사가 눈길을 끈다.

첫 번째 트랙 ‘Liar’는 감각적인 바운스가 돋보이는 Future Bass Ratchet Pop(퓨처 베이스 래칫 팝) 스타일의 곡으로, 거짓말투성이 연인에 대한 감정을 CLC 멤버 7명 각각의 매력으로 풀어낸 감각적인 곡이다. 작/편곡에 참여한 Devine Channel(디바인 채널)은 EXO, 방탄소년단, 트와이스 등 다수의 아티스트들의 히트곡을 발표한 작곡가 크루로, CLC의 개성 있는 이미지를 극대화 시켜 국내뿐 아니라 새로운 해외 팬들의 만족도도 충족시켜줄 수 있는 작품을 완성했다. 세 번째 트랙 ‘Mistake’는 편한 친구와 어느 날 분위기에 취해 실수로 키스한 후의 후회와 설렘 등 복잡한 감정을 위트 있게 풀어나가는 내용의 곡이다. 90년대 스타일의 힙합 비트에 어쿠스틱 베이스와 기타, 신시사이저 사운드가 절묘하게 조화를 이루어 이 곡의 매력을 더해준다. 고양이의 도도하고 시크한 성격을 가사의 모티브로 이용하여 만들어진 ‘미유미유(Meow Meow)’는 고양이 마크를 상징처럼 사용하는 CLC스러운 곡이다. 마치 고양이의 울음소리를 표현한 중독성 있는 가사가 귀를 사로잡는다. 다섯 번째 트랙 ‘말이야’는 좋아하는 이성의 애매모호한 태도에 대한 답답함을 표현한 곡이다. 기다리기 힘든 애타는 마음을 ‘말이야’라는 반복되는 가사를 통해 위트 있게 풀어내어 전국의 많은 썸남 썸녀들이 공감할 만한 곡이다. 마지막 트랙 ‘눈물병’은 사랑하는 남자와의 이별로 인해 마음 속에 병이 들고, 그로 인해 흘리는 눈물은 또 다시 가슴 속에 맺혀 그리움으로 변해가는 악순환을 반복하며 갈팡질팡하는 여자의 심경을 담은 곡이다. 화려한 스트링 세션과 코러스, 애절한 CLC 멤버들의 목소리로 탄생한 마이너 풍의 발라드 곡이다.

미니 5집 [CRYSTYLE]은 변신을 두려워하지 않는 당찬 일곱 소녀들만의 스타일이 고스란히 담겨있는 유니크한 곡들로 가득 찬 앨범이다. 보여줄게 아직 너무나도 많은 CLC의 매력 포텐이 ‘뚝딱’ 터지길 기대한다.

A dramatic change stands out in their 5th mini album [CRYSTYLE]

In January, 2017, CLC is on the verge of a new leap forward with their changes. This 5th mini album [CRYSTYLE] means ‘Own style of CLC’, and you will be able to check out that their beauty and quirky charms have maximized, and become more matured and filled with charisma since their 4th mini album [NU.CLEAR]. HyunA, senior artist of Cube, participated in writing lyrics of the title song "Hobgoblin" and cheered for the drastic style and musical transformation of CLC. Moreover, Ye-eun, the member of CLC who had been making the rap lines of whole CLC’s songs, has formally participated in the lyrics of three songs, ‘Mistake’, ‘Meow Meow’ and ‘I mean that’, raising expectations for their new album.

The title song ‘Hobgoblin’ is an EDM Trap music which shows a strong desire to impress the public with a powerful and unique charm, differ from cute and pretty CLC what they used to be, and Hyuna, a senior artist of Cube and at the same time renown as a best girl crush solo female artist, involving in writing lyrics for CLC members become a hot issue. It tells about a story of a female hobgoblin actively appeals to her favorable partner which has been never dealt with in lyrics before. The first track ‘Liar’, is a Future Bass Ratchet Pop style song with a sensuous bounces, and interprets the feelings of a lover full of lies in CLC members’ respective styles. The Devine Channel, a writer’s crew who worked with many K-pop artists such as EXO, BTS and Twice, also took part in composition and arrangement of this album and not only maximized unique image of CLC but also satisfies overseas fans. ‘Mistake’ is the third track which talks about complex feelings such as regret and fluttering after kissed with a casual guy friend by mistake when they felt a little high. The acoustic bass and guitar and the synthesizer sound over the 90s hiphop style beat well matches together and adds charm of this song. ‘Meow Meow’ illustrates cat’s chic personality as a motif of lyrics and since CLC’s symbol is a cat character it is very CLC-like song. The addictive lyrics express the cries of cats and catch the ears of the listeners. The fifth track, ‘I mean that’ demonstrates a feeling of restlessness because of the ambiguous attitude of a man. The song "I mean that" is a catchy song using witty lyrics which someone who is flirting with others might feel the same way. The last song ‘Depression’ contains the story of a woman who is confused and sick of a break up with beloved man and her dropped tears still lingers in mind becoming a strong longing for him repeatedly. This song is a minor ballad song recorded with full harmonized string session and backup singers, and CLC’s mournful voices.

5th mini album [CRYSTYLE] is full with unique tracks which convey their own style of seven girls who don’t feel any fear of their drastic changes. CLC has too many things to show you, so please look forward to this album which will be a great opportunity for them to prove their amazing potential!

Ni Hao (Hello!)

Note: This is called "a chinese girl look" but its not supposed to be just for chinese girls. It's just inspired by my culture and I wanted to celebrate by making a look to wear with a chinese dress. If people dress up as geishas for Halloween, why not chinese? ^^

This Halloween, I wanted to get in touch with my culture. If you guys don't know already, I am Chinese yes.This tutorial isn't about how to look chinese (obviously because if it is, I wouldn't need to make a tutorial on it because I'm already chinese -_- lol) but more of how you can wear your makeup to match your chinese dress (as costume) in an edgy way.

Dark pink eyes are pretty tricky to pull off but when it's matched with a bold qi pao dress, it suddenly becomes sophisticated and sensual.

I've always thought the qi pao was kind of sexy. It celebrates the curves of a lady and also a symbol of chinese pride so I wanted the look to reflect the essences of a qi pao which is a beautiful bold look that also looks feminine yet sensual.

My mum picked my costume qi pao from ladys market lol. I wanted to get a red ones with sleeves but my mum thought pink would be cuter. I have actual proper qi paos but they're all back home in Northern Ireland.

I was actually inspired to do this look thanks to my little sister. She went to a party as a chinese doll a few years ago and she looked so adorable and got so many compliments. I was supposed to do a geisha tutorial but then I see so many amazing tutorials on Youtube already so I went for an oriental inspired look instead.

Yes it may be Halloween but doesn't mean I can't use it to celebrate my culture bwahahaha.

I'll probably do another chinese inspired makeup tutorial for Chinese New Year but maybe in a different attempt so it looks lighter and more wearable.

Ps. I added a bonus halloween option 2 look for you guys. In my opinion, THIS is the scary look to go for this Halloween.

Pps. I'm still struggling with my Canon 60D, considering going back to camcorders.... =/ any tips guys?
