____________________________________
Music plays an important part in Thủy’s life, with some of her earliest memories being of her father singing and playing the guitar. Traditional Vietnamese music, with its combination of native, foreign and Vietnamese ethnic minority influences, continues to inspire her artistic practice and fashion designs.
This garment was commissioned by singer Hoàng Thùy Linh to feature in her award-winning music video ‘Để Mị Nói Cho Mà Nghe (Let Me Tell You)’, from her latest album ‘Hoàng’ (2019). The video was based on ‘Husband and Wife A Phu’, a short story in ‘Northwest Stories’ (1953), by acclaimed writer Tô Hoài.
Thủy’s designs were based on the distinctive H'Mông dress and textiles of Vietnam’s northwest region, with their meticulous patterns, intricate embroidery and vivid colours. H'Mông ethnic dress is historically based on birth and clan lineage and incorporates designs that carry cultural beliefs, clan identification and legends. Clothing style also distinguishes the different subgroups such as Black H'Mông (Hmoob Dub), Striped H'Mông (Hmoob Txaij), White H'Mông (Hmoob Dawb), Flower H'Mông (Hmong Sib), Green H'Mông (Hmoob Ntsuab), and Blue H'Mông (Hmoob Leeg).
The artworks are displayed at An Everyday Dream exhibition:

Synovitz LB, Byrne TJ. (1998) Antecedents of sexual victimization: factors discriminating victims from nonvictims. J Am Coll Health. 46(4):151-8.
The variables found to be related to women's being sexually victimized were (a) number of different lifetime sexual partners, (b) provocative dress, and (c) alcohol use."
Theresa M. Beiner, Sexy Dressing Revisited: Does Target Dress Play A Part in Sexual Harassment Cases?, 14 Duke J. Gender L. & Pol'y 125 (2007).
PDF: https://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1109&context=djglp
While people perceive dress to have an impact on who is assaulted, studies of rapists suggest that victim attire is not a significant factor. Instead, rapists look for signs of passiveness and submissiveness, which, studies suggest, are more likely to coincide with more body-concealing clothing.(140) In a study to test whether males could determine whether women were high or low in passiveness and submissiveness, Richards and her colleagues found that men, using only nonverbal appearance cues, could accurately assess which women were passive and submissive versus those who were dominant and assertive.(141) Clothing was one of the key cues: “Those females high in passivity and submissiveness (i.e., those at greatest risk for victimization) wore noticeably more body-concealing clothing (i.e., high necklines, long pants and sleeves, multiple layers).” This suggests that men equate body-concealing clothing with passive and submissive qualities, which are qualities that rapists look for in victims. Thus, those who wore provocative clothes would not be viewed as passive or submissive, and would be less likely to be victims of assault."

HI GUYS! This is a bit different from the rest of our content, but we co-founded a non-profit volunteer group with some friends here in Fukuoka called Fukuoka For Sustainability, or FFS (For FUK's Sake!) We do things like beach cleanups and we try to raise awareness in Japan about sustainability. For this stream we have a special guest: Clémentine from "mikan bags" on Instagram and Etsy. Clementine upcycles used kimono into fashionable bags, and for this stream she's going to teach us how to mend old clothing with holes or stains so that we can keep wearing our favorite things instead of throwing them out!
We'll be following along with her tutorial during the live stream. Here's a list of materials if you want to try to follow along as well!
MATERIALS
You will need:
*Clothes to fix (or decorate)
*Threads and hand needles
*Pins (you can do without but they would definitely help!)
*Small pieces of fabric to create the motifs from (about 20cm). Use what is around you: you can cut from discarded clothes or home-wear that you have at home to recycle! Get creative and use different colors, textiles...
*Scissors
*A few coins of different sizes (¥500 , ¥100...) to shape the fabrics in small circles
*Clothes Iron

My mum has taught us how to make do with whatever we have in the kitchen - and you can't go wrong with a simple Fried Rice or Nasi Goreng as a quick, wholesome meal!
I also create a Cookie Challenge for the children since I received 9 Raya Cookies from Iza of BakedKL (IG: @BakedKL). They are an online socially conscious dessert store that also offers gluten free and vegan range cookies and cakes.
Just a shout-out for them since portions of their sales will help Kloth Cares.
(Kloth Cares is a fabric recycling movement that has collected more than 200,000kg of unwanted textiles and clothing since 18.8.2018 but that's only 10% of textiles that goes into Malaysian landfills on daily basis).
You can order from them. Early bird offer of RM36 per jar until the 31st March 2020.
Use my CODE: DAPHNERAYA5 to get RM5 off with a minimum purchase of RM50 from the Raya 2020 Collection and this promo code lasts till 24th April 2020. (As for now as she sent me this before the RMO was implemented. So please DM them for more info k?)
Day 4 done and dusted. #StayAtHome
