今早朋友問我一些關於幫助小朋友閱讀的意見，怎樣由伴讀邁向獨立閱讀，我的做法不是指標，也沒有做深入的研究與分析，不過在我 3 位孩子身上都有正面的成效，想想不如也在這裡跟大家分享。

1 我不喜歡要孩子硬記死背的形式認字，尤其掌握 phonics 前。不過開始了 phonics 後，我也會讓孩子牢記 sight words (e.g. the, he, she, my) 的。

2 無論孩子多大，我們也有伴讀時間，我經常朗讀故事給孩子聽。或許習慣了，有時正仔會拿來一本自己獨立閱讀了好幾遍的書，並要求「媽咪，我宜家想聽你讀呢本書呀」。

3 我們主要閱讀實體書，但我也容許孩子每天花 10-15 分鐘用閱讀 app 聽故事。閱讀 app 的故事是他們自由選擇的，他們尤其喜歡一個叫 Cat Ninja 的漫畫。但家裡主要的藏書是我根據小朋友的能力以及內容的質素揀選，他們從我的選擇中找尋自己喜愛的。很多時候，他們選一兩本書給我伴讀，但同時他們也要閱讀一兩本我的選書。

4 伴讀的時候，是我們享受閱讀、分享想法的時間，我甚少利用這個機會強迫孩子認字。

5 我另外用 levelled readers 去讓孩子運用三個閱讀技巧：phonics 拼字、利用 pictorial cues 以及利用上文下理的 contextual cues 去猜字。孩子能夠混合一起運用，而同時 levelled readers 又是程度合適，基本上孩子可以應付大部分的字詞。

6 伴讀和閱讀 levelled readers 是分開的。前者是由我朗讀，書本的字詞可以比較艱深，只要小朋友能夠理解又享受就可以，例如 5 歲的孖仔也喜歡聽我讀 chapter books。後者是由小朋友朗讀，被我視為獨立閱讀的材料，因此書本的程度一定要合適，他們自己可以應付大部份字詞。他們能力提升才會升級，就算他們能夠理解內容，我都不會給 5 歲的孖仔伴讀 ORT stage 6，但我會伴讀 magic tree house。我把圖書和 levelled readers 分開來處理。

7 因此他們每天也有朗讀 levelled readers 的時間，故事通常簡單又短，他們輕鬆地讀一兩遍，每天其實不過花 5 分鐘，有時著他們自己選書，他們選擇自己有信心的，可以讀得很流暢的，可能 2 分鐘就完成今天的閱讀練習時間。

8 坊間有很多 levelled readers 的教材，我用 Oxford Reading Tree 和 Reading A-Z（這個要自己列印釘裝）。

9 我不會先把 levelled readers 朗讀一遍，一開始小朋友就要自己運用第 5 點所述的技巧去獨立閱讀，如有自己應付不了的字詞，我才會協助拆開音素或者直接讀一次。但閱讀過程是不輕鬆的，因為運用 phonics 拼讀及吐出每一個字又慢又累，所以 book level 要合適，花 5-10 分鐘已經很足夠。
