When Will Jesus Return for us?
““Now from the fig tree learn this parable. When its branch has now become tender, and produces its leaves, you know that the summer is near. Even so you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Most certainly I tell you, this generation will not pass away, until all these things are accomplished. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But no one knows of that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matthew 24:32-36 WEB)
When Jesus said “no one knows of that day and hour,” a Jewish audience who knows the Old Testament (Torah) will see the connection with the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah).
It is celebrated at the same time as Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).
The Bible says that on the Feast of Trumpets, the shofar (a cleaned-out ram’s horn) is to be sounded.
The Jews in charge of blowing the shofar would wait until the approximate date of the appearance of the new moon in the month of September, and watch intently, ready to blow the shofar once the first sliver of new moon is seen.
See this quote about Rosh Hashanah from Wikipedia:
“Since the time of the destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem in 70 CE and the time of Rabban Yohanan ben Zakkai, normative Jewish law appears to be that Rosh Hashanah is to be celebrated for two days, because of the difficulty of determining the date of the new moon.”
In other words, no one knows the day or hour of the new moon’s appearance—just like the Rapture!
See this quote too:
“The best-known ritual of Rosh Hashanah is the blowing of the shofar, a musical instrument made from an animal horn. The shofar is blown at various points during the Rosh Hashanah prayers, with a total of 100 blasts on each day. While the blowing of the shofar is a Biblical statute, it is also a symbolic "wake-up call", stirring Jews to mend their ways and repent. The shofar blasts call out: "Sleepers, wake up from your slumber! Examine your ways and repent and remember your Creator."”
Many Christians are mistaken that the Rapture happens at the last trumpet of the seven trumpets in the Book of Revelation. This would mean that the saints go through the Tribulation and are subject to God’s wrath that will be poured out on this world. However, this is not true.
“in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:52 WEB)
On the Feast of Trumpets, a hundred blasts of the trumpet are sounded. The final blast of the trumpet is the “last trump”. The moment the last trump is founded, we will be transformed. Our mortal bodies will be changed into glorified immortal bodies.
Christians who have already died are called “the dead in Christ” or “asleep”. Bring asleep suggests that it is a temporary state; that they will wake up again.
It is significant that the Jews see the blowing of the shofar on the Feast of Trumpets as a “wake-up call” to awake sleepers from their slumber.
“Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Daniel 12:2 WEB)
The resurrection of the dead will begin with the dead in Christ: all Old Testament and New Testament saints who are saved through faith in Yahweh/Yeshua (Jesus). Their physical bodies which have decayed will be formed back from the dust of the earth, and their spirit will go back into the body. Then, they will be simultaneously transformed with us who are alive and remaining.
Whether or not the Rapture of the saints literally occurs on the Feast of Trumpets or not, we understand that this feast is a picture of the Rapture. If you do not like this term, then you can also call it “the great escape”, “the snatching away”, or “harpazo”.
An archangel will sound many blasts on a heavenly shofar, and at the last blast, we will be changed and be caught up to meet Jesus in the air. It will be a great reunion to see all your loved ones who are asleep at the moment. We will embrace each other amid the clouds, and finally see the Lord face to face.
Are you ready to be receive your new body and to meet the Lord? The return of the Lord is the blessed hope for every Christian, and the signs in this world seem to show that we are in the season of the Rapture.
Once the first sliver of the ‘new moon’ appears, Jesus will stand up and come to receive His bride. Be watchful and excited, for we are not waiting for death, but for our bodily redemption!

Allen Iverson had every reason to feel good after his performance kept Philadelphia close to the division lead.
Surely the mood changed when the Sixers All-Star found out he was injured.
Iverson outperformed Kobe Bryant, scoring 36 points and leading a decisive third-quarter run in the 76ers' 108-91 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Iverson helped pull the Sixers (31-33) to four games of Boston for first place in the Atlantic Division.
"It made me feel good," Iverson said. "Any win makes me feel good."
Iverson, though, chipped a bone in his left thumb sometime in the second half and will be fitted for a cast. He is day-to-day. The Sixers said Iverson will be re-evaluated Friday when they play again at Cleveland.
Iverson left the arena before the injury was announced.
The Sixers certainly need the league's leading scorer if they're going to make any kind of run at the Celtics.
"We would like to have that (winning) streak right now," said Iverson, before he knew the X-ray results.
Andre Iguodala scored 15 points for the Sixers, adding a few more spectacular dunks, including an alley-oop where he came crashing down on Jumaine Jones. Kyle Korver had 14.
Bryant -- who came in trailing Iverson by nearly two points in the league scoring race -- led the Lakers with 20 points, but had little help. The Lakers (32-31) fell out of the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference.
Bryant made five of nine shots in the first quarter, but went 1-for-6 the rest of the game.
"We've got to get more people involved," Bryant said. "They were doubling me and the shots weren't falling."
Iguodala had plenty to do with that. The Sixers rookie kept a hand in Bryant's face most of the game and aggressively contested his shots. Iguodala said he watched plenty of tape to prepare for one of his toughest assignments.
"I knew if I kept my hands up and kept nagging him a little bit that I could make him take a tougher shot," Iguodala said.
Bryant scored 16 points in the first quarter and Iverson had 14 as the two seemed poised for a one-on-one showdown between All-Stars. But Bryant slowed down, thanks largely to the sticky defense by Iguodala, while Iverson kept driving and crashing.
Iverson scored 14 points during a 26-9 run in the third quarter by doing what he does best -- drive the lane, look for the layup and get to the line. When he couldn't do that, Iverson would dribble around the perimeter until he found an open look.
He took six of Philadelphia's 16 shots in the third (making three) and went 7-for-7 from the line. Overall, Iverson went 14-for-15 from the line and 10-for-22 from the floor.
On one fallaway layup from the right side, Iverson was fouled by Chucky Atkins. Atkins bitterly complained and was hit with two quick technicals and ejected from the game.
Korver sank the two free throws for a 66-50 lead. Rodney Rogers hit a 3-pointer near the end of the third, giving Philadelphia a 28-point lead.
Chris Webber again was a non-factor for the Sixers. He scored Philly's first two baskets of the game, sat out 5 minutes of the second quarter and missed his last six shots for five points.
Webber remained baffled as to why he has looked little like the five-time All-Star he was in Sacramento. Of course, watching Iverson take a bulk of the shots and not having coach Jim O'Brien call plays for Webber might have something do with his struggles.
"I don't want to put my finger on it," Webber said. "It's not because it's late in the season. I didn't become this player in one day."
Game notes
Bryant, who went to nearby Lower Merion High School, needed about 30 tickets. Among those invited were players on this year's Merion team and his former coach, Gregg Downer. Lower Merion plays in the Class AAAA state semifinals Wednesday night. Bryant said he loved playing in Philadelphia, even though he's always booed. "If I played here, they'd love it with the Philly attitude I have," he said. "But I enjoy coming here because of that." ... The Sixers are 17-10 when Iverson scores 30 or more points

The Indiana Pacers squandered another lead against the Denver Nuggets, but this time they found a way to win.
Mike Dunleavy scored 30 points, Shawne Williams had 21 and the Pacers, thanks to J.R. Smith's missed free throw with 2.7 seconds left, held off the Nuggets 112-110 on Tuesday night.
"It easily could have gotten away from us," Indiana guard Jamaal Tinsley said.
Allen Iverson had 26 points and Carmelo Anthony 25 to lead the Nuggets, who have lost three of four after a six-game winning streak.
The Pacers (7-8), who led by 18 early in the game, looked safe when Dunleavy's 3-pointer with a minute left gave them a 106-97 lead. But the Nuggets rallied, and with Indiana leading 111-108 in the final seconds, Dunleavy fouled Smith on a 3-point attempt to put him on the line. Smith hit the first two foul shots, but the third bounced off the rim.
"It was ridiculous. It wasn't a foul," Dunleavy said. "He kicked me, and you just can't make that call. You have to take a guy out and you can't have a guy flop like that. It all works out and karma comes out on top, and we deserved the win."
The Nuggets, who had only 11 players in uniform, ran out of gas in the end.
"We got behind so much in the beginning, and we had to use so much energy trying to get back into the game, being so short-handed, it was tough on us," Iverson said.
But the Nuggets (9-6) nearly pulled it off. After Dunleavy's 3-pointer, Iverson and Smith hit back-to-back 3s to pull to 107-103.
Tinsley hit a free throw, and Iverson's layup made it 108-105. Williams hit two free throws, and Smith hit another 3 to pull to 110-108 with 12.5 seconds left.
Williams hit a free throw before Dunleavy was called for the foul on Smith.
"If anything, it should have been an offensive foul on Smith," Pacers head coach Jim O'Brien said.
Denver's rally nearly spoiled a night of redemption for the Pacers. When the teams met in Indianapolis on Nov. 10, the Pacers blew a 25-point first-half lead and lost 113-106. Tuesday, they scored the first 15 points of the game and led 21-3 only to see the Nuggets rally again.
"When we were up 21-3, you have so much time in the game left that you know they are going to come back and you aren't going to run away with it," said Dunleavy, whose 30 points were a season high.
Once the Nuggets started hitting shots, they got back into the game. Reserve guard Anthony Carter gave the Nuggets a spark off the bench, scoring six points to help Denver cut the lead to 27-25 late in the quarter.
The Nuggets tied the score at 37 early in the second period, and they took their first lead when Eduardo Najera hit back-to-back 3s to make it 45-44 with 4:22 left in the half.

Chris Mullin was making just his second start of the season, but it was the finish for the 36-year-old that was really sweet.
Mullin scored nine of his season-high 21 points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer with 1:52 left that pushed the lead to four points, as the Pacers fought back from a 10-point deficit to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers, 92-90.
Mullin's vintage performance ended the 76ers' hopes of catching the New York Knicks for third place in the Eastern Conference, and left them just one-half game ahead of the fifth-place Charlotte Hornets, who hold the tiebreaker after winning the season series, 3-1. The 76ers (48-33) had won three straight coming into the game.
"We had a great opportunity to get home-court advantage, we controlled our own destiny and we didn't get it done," guard Eric Snow said. "We have to win our game tomorrow (in Chicago) and home. Who knows, Charlotte may give us one. If not, we'll go on the road and win."
With the Pacers (55-26) already having clinched their first Eastern Conference title, their aging starting backcourt, Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson, were given the night off. Mullin and Jalen Rose got the nod in their place. It was Rose's 28th start of the season.
"We have a lot of guys on this team who can play and play well," Indiana forward Austin Croshere said. "With two starters and big point scorers sitting out, the other guys wanted to prove that they can play as well, and we did that tonight."
The only thing Mullin has to prove is that he can still produce the way he did in his best years with Golden State. For six straight seasons, from 1987-88 to 1992-93, Mullin averaged more than 20 points a game. But injuries have slowed him considerably in recent years.
The Sixers led 78-68 after three quarters, but Mullin unleashed three 3-pointers and the Pacers' defense held Philadelphia without a basket for a 10:48 span. The Sixers missed 13 straight shots, and when Mullin hit an open 3-pointer from the left corner, Indiana led 89-85 with 1:52 to play.
Toni Kukoc drilled a 3-pointer over Mullin with 42 seconds to play, but Rose hit two free throws with 27 seconds left, putting the Pacers up 91-88.
Rose fouled Snow and the Sixers guard hit both free throws with 20 seconds left, and Philadelphia's chances seemed to improve when Travis Best hit just one of two with 18 seconds to go, leaving the Pacers ahead 92-90.
Snow drove into the paint and flipped a pass out to Kukoc, alone 12 feet from the basket, but the Croatian missed the jumper and the ball skipped out of bounds as time expired.
"Our defense was real good," Indiana coach Larry Bird said. "Down the stretch, we had trouble scoring for a while but our defense kept us in it. We made some plays."
The Sixers looked like the team with nothing at stake early in the game, but Kukoc energized them with his passing in the second quarter and Allen Iverson provided the spark in the third, when Philadelphia built a 10-point lead.
The Sixers opened the quarter with a 10-2 run, powered by George Lynch's six points, and when Theo Ratlif dunked with 8:49 to go, the Sixers were up, 56-54.
Iverson scored 10 points over the final 5:41 of the third, beginning with his layup that gave Philadelphia a 60-59 edge. Despite the sore elbow that kept him from looking for his outside shot Saturday night, Iverson hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Sixers built a 78-68 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.
The Pacers' big starting lineup helped them go on a 9-0 run to take a 29-15 lead late in the first quarter. Austin Croshere dunked back the rebound of Rik Smits' missed jumper and Smits hit a 12-footer before Mullin made back-to-back steals, nailing an open 3-pointer off the first and going in for a layup that gave the Pacers the 14-point lead with 56 seconds left.
Rose finished with 20 points and nine assists, and Smits had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who admitted they were looking for payback for a 111-101 loss they suffered to the Sixers at Conseco Fieldhouse on March 26.
"We have a great record in what we call `payback' games," Rose said. "It was a great win for our team."
"Chris Mullin gave us a big lift," Bird said. "Rik Smits has been about as good as I've seen him in a long time. We had a total effort from everybody. We played hard and that's good to see, especially when you really don't have much to play for."
Iverson led Philadelphia with 24 points, Lynch scored 16, Tyrone Hill grabbed 14 rebounds and Snow dished out 12 assists.
"I understand that to win a championship, you have to win on somebody else's home court anyway," Iverson said. "I always turn a negative into a positive, and the positive is that we'll have some experience with playing on the road if we do have the fifth seed."
