When we first created the roles of Gusti Adipati, Bayan and Patih, I immediately thought of Alex Komang, Christine Hakim and Slamet Rahardjo. I called Alex first and asked if he would play my “brother”, and help Teong Hin and me with the Javanese palace dialogue and to make sure we were always culturally accurate. He immediately said yes, and even helped us contact Christine and Slamet. Then, in between shooting the ship sailing scene at Pulau Perhentian, Christine @christinehakimofficial contacted Dian Sastro @therealdisastr about playing a cameo. The rest, as they say... is legend 😍
PGL was my 2nd film with Christine after Irisan-Irisan Hati (my first movie - imagine acting opposite the QUEEN of Indonesian cinema on your first film 😅 and we became really good friends since.
Pak Slamet @slametdjarot is one of those actors I had always looked up - he was to me like the Sean Connery of Indonesia. So imagine my excitement when he said yes!
