KAWAII♥PATEEN Report
"Shiro-Nuri" (painted in white) artist MINORI interview & June 2014 exhibition
Minori is a Shiro-Nuri (painted in white) makeup artist who uses Japanese traditional Shiro-Nuri techniques to express nature-centered themes since 2009.
Her art is not limited to photos, she is herself a living work of art, exhibiting her Shiro-Nuri makeup as a fashion style in everyday life. She calls this style "Monshiro-Joh", which would mean "Miss Small-White" (a play of words with "Monshiro-Choh" which means Small Cabbage White butterfly).
Shiro-Nuri is a Japanese traditional makeup style, and is used by Geisha and actors of Kabuki for a very long time.
Since the Meiji era (1868-1912) the Japanese arts have been greatly influenced by the Fine Arts from the occident,
and started moving from simple handicrafts to fine arts, and lately with the new technologies Japanese arts start another transformation.
This exhibition called HYOH-BYOH is centered around the artists whose art is based on traditional Japanese detailed crafts and workmanship, and still not influenced by new technologies.

creating decorations as I desire, like a canvas.
People do get scary
I do not care about the criticism
There are clothes I want wear, and I do my make-up accordingly, so with the white painting I also wear it as a fashion.
I truly like the Gothic and the Lolita, and since those types of clothes are decorated, or should I say, the decorations are very detailed, there was a part of me which said it does not match very well with my looks.
During that time, I was not creating, but the desire to express my originality grew more and more. Thus, I started creating on my own or re-make, and I had continued to change my make-up accordingly.
When my face is white, I am able to change the decoration or create a new face like a canvas.
I brought in my favorite "nature" aspect, and gave it more originality.

When my face is white, I am able to change the decoration or create a new face like a canvas.
I brought in my favorite "nature" aspect, and gave it more originality.
I have different mindsets on fashion photos and art photos. The fashion is based on purely for my enjoyment, but the art photos is an experiment on how much I can express on one theme of nature. And, based on that nature theme, I make my own costume or tell the photographer on how I want to shoot the photos and create something together.
It does make people scary.
The white painting. Yes, when the face is white, people tell me I look dead or it looks creepy, but other than that I do not have any problems.
I have this pure feeling of loving it, and I have a strong feeling of expressing through this white painting style, and it is the strongest thing I want to do in my life. Although others may call it creepy, I do not care much. Seeking what I want to do and finding the meaning of my life is what keeps me going despite the criticism.
This exhibition is called "HYOH-BYOH" (vast and indistinct). It is an exhibition of masterly art of selected artists who create by hand, which is analog but very detailed work.
I was invited by Ikeuchi-san, the curator who thought my make-up to be great and eye catching. Based on the theme of nature becoming visible from the inner face is the main theme. The title is "metabolism". The image I have is absorbing and releasing new things in and out of your self.
It seems there is a body mechanism of blinking without consciousness. I believe in that short moment appears the true nature within me. So, I shot with the theme of nature coming out and disappearing every time I blink my eyes.
The art works have been taken in 4 patterns.
From the top, "sun" "plants" "water" and "earth"
From the left is shown the "sleep" "awakening" "enlightenment" "death".
I am not only changing my make-up, but also my hair as well.
One of the themes is the "sun" from its "awakening" until its death.
This took us a whole day to photo shoot. Starting from the very first status of sleep, I added more make-up and finalized it. It goes same with the hair where I arrange using one whole thing on the same day and at the end, accordingly with "death", I either burn it or spray paint it.

Hi everyone, this is Aoki Misako (Japanese name order; the surname is Aoki).
Today, I'm paying a visit to the storeroom of Baby, The Stars Shine Bright (top lolita fashion boutique chain in Japan, shortened to Baby).
Here, I'll introduce 5 major styles in lolita fashion.
The first is "Traditional Lolita".
This style consists of cute, girlish dresses made from plain, natural-toned fabrics and lace.
Traditional Lolita is the old-school style worn by (actress) Fukada Kyoko in the movie Kamikaze Girls. It places a lot of emphasis on basic colors, lace and ribbons to achieve that sweet, feminine look.
Even though patterned fabrics are all the rage these days, vintage dresses like these with natural cloth and lots of lace are timeless and have never gone out of style.
The chest area of this dress is shirred, making it exceptionally comfortable and easy to wear. Check out these 2 ribbons. The blouse can easily be matched with anything.
These items are sold in a set by Baby, making it easy even for beginners to coordinate, such as with this matching Alice band.
Now i'll introduce hair accessories for the Traditional Lolita style.
First is this headdress i'm wearing; it's a classic piece that is iconic of Lolita fashion.
Next are these ribbon hair ties, which can be used to create an array of hairstyles, such as twin ponytails.
And here is perhaps the easiest item to accessorize with, the ribbon Alice band. Like magic, the simple addition of one can turn any look from plain to adorable.
At times when you want to tone down your Traditional Lolita outfit, or during cold weather, i recommend these fluffy beret hats.
The style I'm wearing now is called "Sweet Lolita".
The hallmark of this style is pink color from head to toe, together with patterns featuring chocolates, candy, animals and other such sweet and cuddly motifs.
This Sweet Lolita dress's design features Baby's original character Kuma Kumya, along with cookies and chocolates. It is a very popular style at the moment.
When you put it on, it looks so sweet that you could almost smell the aroma of chocolate coming from it!
This piece has a "Kumya and Friends" design with a Halloween theme. Lately, having seasonal themed designs such as for Christmas and Halloween has become very popular in the Lolita fashion world.
The design of this piece is called "Alice's Dollhouse". It is filled with images of Alice having a tea party with her animal friends like Rabbit and Cat.
Sweet Lolita is all about pink - for example this blouse made of pink fabric coordinated with this jumper decorated with pink patterns. On top of this pink-on-pink theme, it uses images of sweet things like candy and pastries, and feminine things like cosmetics, to really maximise the sense of feminine identity.
This piece I'm wearing retells the story of Hansel and Gretel with lots of sweets, it's really cute, and one of the bestsellers as well.
For the Sweet Lolita, carrying an animal-shaped bag like this one further enhances the cuteness of the look.
This one is Kuma Kumya, and this one is Rabbit Kumya. It has a 'kiss lock' type metal clasp.
Many Sweet Lolitas coordinate their outfits with accessories like these. For an even bolder statement, you could also go for a backpack. It's just big enough to contain snacks and sweets.
As for hair accessories for the Sweet Lolita, besides the ubiquitous ribbon Alice band, mini hats like this are in fashion now.
This one is designed to look like a piece of strawberry chocolate, and other than wearing it on your own head, you could also let Kuma Kumya wear it!

How are you guys?
Summer is here! Yay! I love Summer!
In this time of year people in Japan wear a Yukata on the Japanese Summer Festivals. i love Japanese Sumemr Festivals. There they have many stalls with things to like for example kingyosukui (gold fish fishing) If you are able to fish a fish you can keep it! Or some popular food stalls are: Takoyaki, Yakisoba and Yakitori but not only Yaki stuff (yaki means fried) but also sweets like Kakigori. My favourite japanese summer food is Matcha Kakigori, that's shaved ice with green tea flavour syrup, anko and mochi! Oh, i'm sorry i was talking so much about the Japanese Summer Festivals, lol. So actually I wanted to show you guys hairstyles you can wear with a Yukata. Of course you don't need to wear a Yukata to these hairstyles, you can wear whatever you like and use whatever accesories!
- Yukata and accesoires
I got them in Japan, 2010. It's from a traditional Kimono/Yukata shop. When I was in Japan it was summer during that time, and I saw many Yukatas being sold.
I'm super curious how the Hair Style turns out on you, and which one you choose to try! You can show me your results on twitter @VenusAngelic, and I'll retweet you! ♥♥♥
Oh, BTW! I know many of you guys don't like my voice and my accent. I'm very sorry!
But I want you to know, that I will never be able to talk like a British or American person! Because I'm not British/American nor was I raised in english speaking environment. I had to teach myself english in primary school 4th grade, because the teacher didn't do english classes and I didn't want to be a dumbo! D :
My Nationality:
No I'm not swedish, russian, japanese, german etc.
I'm half Swiss and half Hungarian. I was born and raised in Switzerland, so my mother tongue is Swiss-German (also called low-german). I don't know how to speak Hungarian.
Languages I speak: Swiss-German (Kanton Aargau), German, English, Spanish (I lived in teneriffe 3 years) and Japanese. I live in London since about 9 months. I have strong accent because I still speak swiss german with my mom everyday. Swiss German is very different from high german. Let me show you an example.
English: I want a cookie.
German: Ich will einen Keks.
Swiss German: Ech wott äs Guetzli.
