“เชลดอน แอเดิลเซิน” เพิ่งเสียชีวิตเมื่อวานนี้ ด้วยอายุ 87 ปี
เขาเป็น นักธุรกิจชาวอเมริกัน ที่เป็นเจ้าของเพียง 9 โรงแรมทั่วโลก
แต่ทำไมเครือโรงแรมของเขา กลับกลายเป็นเครือโรงแรมที่มีมูลค่ามากที่สุดในโลก

คุณเชลดอน เริ่มต้นชีวิตนักธุรกิจจากขายอุปกรณ์สุขภัณฑ์ และธุรกิจนายหน้า และให้คำปรึกษาเกี่ยวกับอสังหาริมทรัพย์
ต่อมาเขาก็ได้ขยายธุรกิจ จัดทำบริษัทรับจัดงานซื้อขายคอมพิวเตอร์
ในระหว่างการจัดงานซื้อขายคอมพิวเตอร์ และอุปกรณ์เทคโนโลยี
สิ่งที่เขาจำเป็นต้องมีก็คือ พื้นที่ในการขายของ หรือสถานที่ในการจัดงานเทรดโชว์
ซึ่งงานที่สร้างเทรนโชว์ที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับเขา มีชื่อว่า Computer Dealers Expo (COMDEX) โดยงานนี้จะถูกจัดที่ MGM Grand Hotel ในลาสเวกัส
หลังจากประสบความสำเร็จในครั้งนั้น ทำให้เขาก็เริ่มคิดว่าแทนที่เขาจะต้องไปเสียค่าเช่าพื้นที่จัดงานเทรดโชว์เป็นประจำ ทำไมถึงไม่ซื้อโรงแรมขนาดใหญ่ ที่มีพื้นจัดงานกว้างขวางซะเองเลยละ..
จนในปี 1989 เขาได้มีโอกาสเข้าไปดูพื้นที่ของโรงแรม Sands Casino ที่ลาสเวกัส และก็ได้ตัดสินใจเข้าซื้อโรงแรมแห่งนี้ ในมูลค่าที่สูงถึง 3,800 ล้านบาท
กล่าวได้ว่า นี่คือจุดเริ่มต้นสำคัญของบริษัท Las Vegas Sands ที่จะกลายเป็นอาณาจักรของที่ยิ่งใหญ่ของเขาในเวลาต่อมา
ลาสเวกัส ถือเป็นเมืองที่เรารู้จักกันดี ในฐานะเมืองกาสิโน ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก
ซึ่งในเวลาต่อมา คุณเชลดอนก็ได้ทำการสร้างแบรนด์โรงแรมกาสิโน กับคอนเซปต์ของโรงแรมที่ไม่มีกลางคืนชื่อว่า “The Venetian” ขึ้นมา
ซึ่งคอนเซปต์ดังกล่าว มีที่มาจากการที่เขาไปเที่ยวเมืองเวนิส ประเทศอิตาลี กับภรรยา
และชื่นชอบใน สายน้ำ และแสงแดดที่ทำให้รู้สึกผ่อนคลาย
เขาจึงมีความคิดที่ว่า ท้องฟ้ายามกลางวันแบบนี้ จะทำให้นักลงทุนที่มาใช้บริการกาสิโนรู้สึกผ่อนคลาย และ สดชื่นตลอดเวลา จึงอยากจะกลับลงไปลงทุนต่อนั่นเอง
โรงแรม The Venetian แห่งแรกได้ถูกก่อตั้งในปี 1999 หรือราว 20 ปีที่แล้ว ที่เมือง ลาสเวกัส สหรัฐอเมริกา
ก่อนที่จะขยายไปยังประเทศอื่น ๆ
โดยหนึ่งในโรงแรม The Venetian ที่โด่งดังที่สุดอยู่ในเขตปกครองพิเศษของจีน อย่างมาเก๊า
The Venetian Macao ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 2007 และได้ถูกจัดอันดับว่าเป็นโรงแรมกาสิโนที่มีขนาดใหญ่เป็นอันดับที่ 2 ของโลก
เรื่องนี้ไม่ได้ทำให้บริษัท Las Vegas Sands หยุดการพัฒนาอยู่เพียงแค่นั้น แต่บริษัทยังได้ทุ่มทุนสร้างโรงแรมในลักษณะกาสิโนออกมาอีกมากมายในมาเก๊า
หรือพูดง่ายๆ คือ หากคุณอยากก้าวเท้าออกไปจาก The Venetian Macao เพื่อต้องการเปลี่ยนสถานที่เล่น และหลีกหนีความหนาแน่นของผู้คน
คุณจะเจอโรงแรมกาสิโนชื่อดังในระแวกข้างเคียง เช่น The Parisian และ The Plaza และถ้าคุณเข้าไปใช้บริการ มันก็จะเสมือนกับเงินในมือของคุณ จะวิ่งจากกระเป๋าซ้าย เข้าสู่กระเป๋าขวา ของบริษัท Las Vegas Sands อยู่ดี
ลองมาดูกันว่าผลประกอบการของ Las Vegas Sands ที่ผ่านมา เป็นอย่างไร?
ปี 2017 มีรายได้ 382,985 ล้านบาท กำไร 98,177 ล้านบาท
ปี 2018 มีรายได้ 413,105 ล้านบาท กำไร 88,789 ล้านบาท
ปี 2019 มีรายได้ 413,406 ล้านบาท กำไร 99,410 ล้านบาท
โดยส่วนแบ่งรายได้มีดังนี้
71% มาจากกาสิโน ภายในโรงแรม
13% มาจากค่าห้องพัก
10% มาจากห้างสรรพสินค้า ภายในโรงแรม
6% มาจากอาหาร และเครื่องดื่ม
บริษัท Las Vegas Sands มีโรงแรมทั้งหมดเพียงแค่ 9 แห่ง คิดเป็นจำนวนห้องพัก 7,100 ห้อง ทั่วโลก
ซึ่งปัจจุบัน Las Vegas Sands มีมูลค่าประมาณ 1.3 ล้านล้านบาท
มีมูลค่ามากกว่า Marriott International ที่มีจำนวนโรงแรมมากถึง 6,900 แห่ง
และมีห้องพักอยู่มากถึง 1,300,000 ห้อง
จากตรงนี้ จะเห็นได้ว่า Las Vegas Sands มีรายส่วนแบ่งรายได้จาก กาสิโน เป็นช่องทางหลัก
และโมเดลการดำเนินธุรกิจ ก็ไม่ได้เหมือนกับเชนโรงแรมอื่น ที่เน้นการขยายกิจการในรูปแบบ แฟรนไชส์ ซึ่งจะมีการรับบริหารโรงแรม
แม้ว่า Las Vegas Sands เป็นเชนโรงแรมที่ประสบความสำเร็จ
แต่ก็คงปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่าวิกฤติโรคระบาดในช่วงนี้
ได้ส่งผลกระทบโดยตรงต่อธุรกิจโรงแรมทุกแห่งบนโลก
แต่หุ้นของบริษัท Las Vegas Sands ก็ลดลงกว่าช่วงก่อนหน้าวิกฤติโรคระบาดเพียง 17%
นั่นก็เป็นเพราะ การเสี่ยงโชคอาจเป็นหนึ่งในดีเอ็นเอของมนุษย์
และเมื่อวิกฤติผ่านพ้นไป โลกก็จะกลับเข้าสู่สภาวะปกติ
เครือโรงแรมของ Las Vegas Sands ก็น่าจะเป็นจุดหมายปลายทางอันดับต้น ๆ ของใครหลายคนอีกครั้ง..

เมื่อวานนี้ (วันที่ 12 มกราคม 2564) คุณเชลดอน แอเดิลเซิน เพิ่งเสียชีวิตลงด้วยอายุ 87 ปี
เขาเกิดในครอบครัวที่พ่อเป็นคนขับแท็กซี่ และคุณแม่เปิดร้านเย็บผ้า ในขณะที่ตัวเขาเอง ไม่ได้เรียนจบมหาวิทยาลัย แต่ค่อยๆสร้างกิจการของเขาขึ้นมา

I am living in Macau, China and in this video I wanted to show you how the Corona Virus has affected daily life here in Macau.
Macau is a very popular tourist attraction for many Mainland Chinese people, coming to see the landmarks and gamble. This has made Macau on of the richest countries in the world and the Number 1 in revenue for gambling. It is often called "The Las Vegas of Asia".
However due to the coronavirus outbreak the casinos have been shut down in Macau and the Macau landmarks have been left abandoned.
In one week life has changed here in Macau due to the virus and in this video I show you what life is like in China during the Coronavirus.
I share my experience with living here during the virus as well as how the local public has reacted and how the Government has responded.
I also walk around some of the areas of Macau most impacted by the Cornavirus:
- Ruins of Saint Paul
- Ama Temple
- Senado Square
- Cotai Strip
- Old Taipa Village
For me the biggest impact has been on the Cotai Strip with the Casinos in Macau shut down. It is now very quiet and in this video I show you the impact that the Coronavirus has had on Macau, China.
