After his predecessor Han Kuo-yu of the KMT was ousted in a recall vote last weekend, Kaohsiung's new acting mayor Yang Ming-chou wasted no time to get to work. Yang took the oath of office Saturday, and on Sunday morning he visited a water interceptor station whose pump failed and led to serious flooding in Yancheng District last month. Worried that Typhoon Nuri could bring heavy rains, Yang repeatedly demanded promises from his Water Resources Bureau officials that there would not be a repeat of any flooding.
高雄市代理市長楊明州昨（13）天上任後，雖然是假日，仍然立刻上工。上午來到七賢截流站視察，因為上個月豪大雨時，抽水機故障，導致鹽埕區淹水。就怕鸚鵡颱風會帶來大雨，楊明州三度追問水利局，同樣情況會不會再淹水?直到水利局回答不會淹水，才放心。
