“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Is the WRONG question 🙅🏻♀️ to ask our children.
.
In this changing world where more than 60% of the jobs in the future don’t yet exist today, that question pigeonholes their expectations and limit their choices, not to mention that “profession” may not even exist anymore.

Instead, ask them:
⭐️ What do you enjoy doing?
⭐️ What problems do you want to solve?
⭐️What are you going to impart on the world?
⭐️What good will you accomplish for others?
.
Asking better questions help you and your children recognise their strengths and together, you can work towards the development of the things they're passionate about.

I know, it isn’t easy. We are conditioned to think occupations as a particular set of jobs. For instance, when I first asked Lauren, she said she wanted to be a gymnast or a performer. I probed more and asked her why? She mentioned that she likes to entertain people and make them smile.
.
That’s it! It opens up a whole new world of possibilities when she realised that making others smile makes her happy too.

As for Georgia, she loves fixing things around the house and she wants to “invent” things. A big word for a 4-year-old but it’s absolutely possible.
.
Kids are new to the world, with no preconceived notions of what can be done. Everything and anything is possible. I believe it’s our job to encourage them to think outside of what seems possible.
