Being a mother is one of the greatest yet hardest things. Eight years into the journey and now as a mum of three, I know that it ain't gonna get any easier, at least not anytime soon. Some days I go to sleep with a big smile, some days I go to bed with tears in my eyes, but most days I fall asleep feeling more exhausted than I've ever been, only to find myself waking up an hour later when someone cries for Mama.
Sometimes I wonder I did wrong, what I did right, what I will do differently if I have the chance to redo the bad moments. Sometimes I think of life before the kids and how I wish to just go party or have some whiskey on the rocks without feeling the guilt. Sometimes I try so hard to justify my actions and end up blaming myself even more for being someone I don't really wanna be. Sometimes I feel like hiding in the toilet or under the blanket for just a while longer before having to resume being mum.
Yup, it takes someone tough to be a mother. But I will never trade this job for anything in the world, because for every tear and heartbreak I went through, the smiles, joy, laughter and feeling of being deeply loved more than makes up for it. And in any case, it's precisely because motherhood is such a medley of every single emotion that makes it so challenging and unexpected, yet amazing and magical in every way.
To my kids, thank you for letting me be your mum and seeing me as your world. You may be my children but if there's anyone who can teach me about the true meaning of life, it's you. Thanks for leting me love and loving me in ways I never knew possible. Every day we have together is a gift, so thank you for making me feel special, not just today but every day.
