今天的課技術含量高一些。並非從前中文系修的那一門「文字學」(甲骨文金文篆文……偶買尬羊老師的老師你們過得好嗎);這一堂「學文字」主要是討論怎麼把每一個獨立且獨特的方塊字,串起來變成好玩吸睛的文案。
說是學文字,但在某些節點上,更像是學怎麼做人。
先從怎麼下標題開始說起。創意當然無規範,舉的例子都是前人試驗過覺得可行的方式,不一定全對,畢竟時代瞬息萬變,沒有一套永遠的作業準則。其實我在每次的課堂都試圖把學生拉到一個中間的位置去看待現今社會的各種現象,且先不預設任何立場。譬如說「標題黨」。我請學生示範,有人回復「14億人都驚呆了!」,於是問題來了。14億人是哪國人口?答:中國。是,所以下標題第一步,了解你的受眾群體,訴諸的對象是哪一國、哪一州、哪一區,再以經過嚴謹考察的數據呈現,貼近受眾。若把題目換成吉隆坡,可能會是「吉隆坡179萬人都笑了!」(咦吉隆坡是終於零確診了嗎)。於是第二個問題來了:搞到了噱頭,但標題要表達的內容是什麼?不知道。在唬人標題氾濫的社交媒體群像,受眾是否還會點擊這個不明不白的文章?出於獵奇心態的可能會,但前提是「氾濫」,你還有更吸引別人的招數嗎?於是我們不得不回歸一個表達的宗旨——不言之無物,不下空泛之標題,而先透過一種誘餌式的標題,半透半明地吸引,再呈現扎實的內容。
從標題延伸至內文。假設有一則內文是這樣寫的:「王先生與多個當地教育機構有合作關係。」另一則內文是這樣:「王先生在紐約大學教廣告文案,並在布魯克林理科學院教科技論文寫作。」(範例取自Robert W. Bly的《The Copywriter's Handbook, 3rd edition》)哪一種表達方式才算是內容呢?把同樣的場景切換成即將步入職場的這群00後,在面試官面前,前者的回答與後者的回答,哪一種更讓人留下深刻印象?具體扎實,邏輯清晰,才能為內容加分。
而換位思考是開口或下筆前的第一步,用受眾或當事者的口吻寫出來的文案,才是真正貼近他們的廣告。經驗無疑成為文案創作者很重要的養分。張艾嘉在《念念青春》實境節目第一集與周深一起回顧青春,她說,她年輕過,但周深沒有老過。的確。一個年輕的創作者還在變老的路上,但年輕不能以沒經驗為藉口,年輕人自然要找到辦法去了解他沒有經歷過的人生,不然,一個沒狐臭的文案人要怎麼推銷芳香劑?一個沒買過電視機的20歲文案人要怎麼說服50歲的老人家買電視機?
我想,大學,就是幫助學生們找到辦法的地方。學生們不一定會在這裡找到答案,或許還會打撈更多問號,但至少不會在出到社會以後還是張口閉口那句「我不行。我不懂。我沒辦法。」
大學就是一個社會的縮影。它是我窺看世界的第一面窗。我的同學來自四面八方,他們讓我了解了北馬人親切的腔調,讓我知道原來廣東話的廣告無法打動以看新加坡華語劇與聽華文電台長大的南馬人(我說的是大部分)。以及東馬少數民族,他們的文化,思考方式,生活習慣……每每在我創作時,那些我遇過的人都像光一樣迸現,讓創意靈活跳躍。每個人身上都承載一個世界,就看我們有多願意去打開它。Yasmin Ahmad為國油Petronas創作的一系列膾炙人口的節慶廣告,哪一部不是因為好奇、經過尋訪、深入挖掘而創造出來的呢?
「已經開課兩個學期,我連同學的樣子都還沒認真看過,更別說是新紀元這個大學學府了。」只希望疫情早日散去,學生們快樂地回到教室,虛擲那一整串長長,仿佛無盡的,無慮的青春時光。
鐘聲沒有響起,我們下課。
