Due to time constraints in Kyoto, this time I decided to visit Uji's Tsujiri Honten #辻利宇治本店 again, instead of Tsujirihei Honten #辻利兵衛本店 - which both were originally branched off versions from different family brothers since 1860. In Kyoto, the different branches of Green Tea Traditional Ceremonies are actually quite exclusive and the schools aren't easily joinable by just anyone even for Japanese Citizens, think of it as like the regional Ninja Clans back in the days! Anyway, since these days I don't always have a lot of patience, this visit wasn't going to be a full 茶道 Tea Ceremony experience for me anyway, which I used to do in the past! 😂 I just wanted to have a quick reacquaintence with the hard to receive outside of Kyoto and Nara region, Matcha Koicha (CHIYO) 抹茶 お濃茶 千代. At 1,600 Yen its not exactly cheap and it's almost syrupy in consistency, but u also get a hand made Monaka sandwich 最中 to pair. So this Matcha Tea is about 3 times as intense as normal Matcha Usucha 薄茶 as u can see, and usually shared between at least 3 people in Ceremonies, and is considered the epitome of the Matcha world.

However Since Kyoto Uji green tea is becoming more streamlined and commercialized in 21st Century, u r suppose to now only drink half of the prestigious thick Tea to experience it 1st, before u ask the shop staff to dilute it down to get 2 diff experiences.. The thing is 千利休 started this Green Tea Japanese Ceremony back in the 1500's, but since then the family has split into 3 Major schools style when drinking Kyoto tea namely 表千家, 里千家, 和武者小路千家. And then after that, there developed also many micro styles after the so many passing down of generations.. So it's always fun to explore this part in Kyoto, even though if it became kinda complicated after like 500 years 😅 I am as confused as you, but it's good to at least get started exploring 🙈 #HKEKyoto #Kyoto #京都 #抹茶 #Matcha #濃茶
