Hi! I’m Crystal, AIT@40 Campaign Coordinator. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Broadcasting) from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at National University – San Diego. Education is a value that was instilled in me at a very young age, which is why I am excited to announce that AIT is celebrating Education Month throughout September. Here is my recommendation for ‘Book of the Month’:
Named to Former President Barack Obama’s summer reading list, best-selling author Tara Westover’s memoir “Educated,” is about growing up in Idaho with her Mormon survivalist family that kept her out of the public school system until the age of seventeen. Although Westover faced many hurdles in life, she persisted. Going above and beyond the norm with all odds against her, Tara eventually earned a PhD from Cambridge University. Tara’s story is a victory of education; reminding us all that knowledge is power.
Did you know that 2 percent of Americans have a doctoral degree, and 1.5 percent have earned a professional degree that requires study beyond a four-year bachelor's degree? Where did you receive or plan to earn your degree? Post in the comments below.

Hi! I’m Jennifer, Political Intern at AIT and student at Johns Hopkins SAIS. August is Security Cooperation month, here is my recommendation for the ‘Book of the Month’: Paul Scharre’s Army of None looks at how autonomous weapons might be used to fight future wars. Scharre, a former Army Ranger, breaks down what could be a scary and dense topic, explains how such weapons work, how they might be regulated, and the moral and ethical implications of developing robots that can kill. It’s an informative and important read, but don’t take my word for it—it was one of Bill Gates’s favorite books of 2018!

#AITat40 #AITat40Celebration #BookoftheMonth #ImmigrationandExchangeMonth
May is AIT@40 Immigration & Exchange month! For this month’s Book of the Month, American Citizen Services Chief Travis Sevy would like to recommend Brandt Goldstein’s Storming the Courts: How a Band of Law Students Fought the President—AND WON. This book recounts the heroic efforts of a group of Yale Law School students and their professor Harold Koh—whose own parents immigrated to the United States as political refugees—and their legal battle to protect the rights of Haitian refugees. This book is a powerful reminder of the contributions that refugees and other immigrants make to the United States and the constitutional protections at the heart of who we are as Americans.
