Today is #InternationalHumanRightsDay and President Tsai Ing-wen bestowed the Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award on #Australia’s Diplomacy Training Program.
The program is a non-governmental organization founded in 1989 and has trained over 3,000 #HumanRights defenders from over 60 countries in the #AsiaPacific, the #MiddleEast and #NorthAfrica, helping to advance the cause of democracy around the world.
Carl Gershman, the president of the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) was also awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon by President Tsai at the event.
Mr. Gershman has presided over NED's grant programs in #Africa, #Asia, the Middle East, #EasternEurope, and #LatinAmerica, supporting the projects of non-governmental groups abroad who are working for democratic goals in more than 90 countries.
