Let’s get this straight... Defund the police does not mean dismantling the police department and removing them from our communities. It’s reforming the police department and reframing HOW the police interact with our communities. •

In many cities, the vast majority of taxpayer dollars (up to 1/3) are used to fund the police department, leaving very little money for investing programs in our communities. While it doesn’t have ONE universal, sweeping definition, the #defundthepolice movement does have one universal truth: we are seeking to redefine the police department and reinvest some of the cities’ police department’s budgets into the community. We’re seeking to redirect some of those dollars from the police department and funding marginalized school districts, affordable housing programs, including increased opportunities for home ownership, investing in the communities and small businesses, access to affordable health care, mentoring and opportunity programs, and mental health awareness and programming. Basically taking the FOOT OFF OUR NECKS and giving us some of the hard earned capital we pay to Uncle Sam and reinvesting into OUR communities. #GetIntoIt because #BlackLivesMatter and a change is gonna come✊🏾
