Who loves chicken rice too?
❤ this painting done by the big girl of her favourite dish. It's been six and a half years since she began her journey at @heartstudiosg and it's good to see that she still loves art as much as ever. It's a good way to stretch her imagination, let her destress, see the world in a different light and have the freedom to unleash her creativity.
We are not intending for her to go into an art school or take up art as a career in future (well, it's eventually all up to her); it's purely for her to do something that she truly likes, enjoys and can look forward to every week.
That said, we are taking a two-weeks break from all enrichment classes so it's all about playing, having fun, spreading laughter and family bonding for the holidays, 24/7. Woohoo! I love school holidays!

孩子们,要永远记得施比受更有福, 哪怕只是小小的付出,还是能带来无比的快乐。
This year, I've been trying to teach the kids to give back to society a little more and let them know that every bit counts. Besides making food donations, signing up as volunteers at a non-profit organisation and letting them witness my blood donation experience in the hope that they will do so too when they grow up, we did something a little more yesterday and got up close with the elderly.
Thanks to a big-hearted friend who turned a year wiser and wanted to do a little more for the community, we rounded up our kids and made our way to Bendemeer where we gave out drinks to the elderly and cleaners or treated them to a meal at the food centre. Then we bought many bags of bread, biscuits, cookies, coffee, tea, Milo and other household items - the kids chose what they wanted to buy - and went around to distribute to the homes of the elderly nearby or to anyone who passed by and was willing to receive. It's not surprising that not all of them wanted to accept the goodwill for fear of our intentions or just because they were shy but as my wise friend pointed out, it's a good way for the kids to learn to deal with rejection and keep trying instead of giving up too.
My kids were apprehensive to approach any of the elderly initially and it took some practice, demonstration and lots of encouragement before they could do it on their own. Most of the elderly were delighted to chat with them even if they didn't want to receive the items, and it was plain to see how easy it was to bring a smile on their faces and make their day a little brighter. We likely brought smiles on dozens of folks today and it didn't take us a lot. Neither did we need to do a great deal of planning or go through complicated procedures. All it takes is the willingness to make a difference around you.
Thankful for this opportunity, or rather initiative, which I hope we can keep going in the future. All it takes is a spark.
