When it comes to Taiwanese food, braised pork rice or minced pork rice (滷肉飯 – Lu Rou Fan) is without a doubt one of the nation’s favorites.
Since CNN listed braised pork rice as the top food to eat in Taiwan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan decided to launch the 2017 Taiwan Braised Pork Festival (2017台湾滷肉饭节) on 23rd August 2017.
My blog was chosen to represent Malaysia on providing coverage not only on the festival, but also a couple of the featured braised pork rice restaurants.
Here’s the schedule of the festival’s tour:
– 23 August: Taipei (台北)
– 2 September: New Taipei (新北市)
– 9 September: Taoyuan (桃园市)
– 15 September: Taichung (台中市)
– 23 September: Tainan (台南市)
– 30 September: Kaohsiung (高雄市)
So if you happen to be in Taiwan in the month of September, do keep an eye for the festival and I encourage you to attend it.
You will learn more about the dish and better still, get to taste braised pork rice from various regions in the country minus the traveling.

The proprietor of Lan's Minced Pork Shop, fondly known as Lan Mama founded the shop in 1992 and has been cooking her famous minced pork using only fresh meat based on her grandmother’s traditional recipe.
She has since perfected the recipe over the years and her minced pork rice to me, is impeccable and also the most enjoyable one we have ever had in Taiwan.
