Dear NTU students and colleagues,
.
In response to the new infections among staff at the Engineering Affairs Office of the NTU Hospital and the upgraded Alert Level 3 nationwide, the University is reminding you all to suspend events of over 5 people indoors and 10 people outdoors. Also, starting May 20 until 28, please comply with the following preventive measures.
.
1. All non-urgent laboratory work at the master’s and doctoral programs of the College of Medicine will be suspended. Except for those processing necessary work (e.g. payroll affairs), all faculty and staff of the College of Medicine should work from home (including mail room).
.
2. As per night curfew entry control, swipe-in access should be implemented at all premises of the College of Medicine. Outside visitors will be denied access. Restaurants and commissaries will suspend operation and current construction work will be put on hold as well.
.
3. All faculty, staff, and students are advised to refrain from entering the College of Medicine (including Basic Medical Science Building, Center of Genomic Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and Museum of Medical Humanities) and NTU Hospital.
.
4. Official exchanges between the College of Medicine, NTU Main Campus and NTU Hospital should all be suspended. Exchanges between staff at different premises should also be minimized.
.
5. College of Medicine faculty, staff, and students working at the College of Public Health should stick to the same locations to carry out daily routines and decrease contacts with others. Do not go to other floors of the College of Public Health.
.
6. The now suspended shuttle bus service between the Main Campus and the College of Medicine will continue.
.
As the COVID-19 is still wreaking havoc, the University will make necessary and prompt adjustments to existing measures according to the development of the latest pandemic situation. Please be reminded to wear a mask at all times when you go out, wash hands frequently, and keep appropriate social distancing. Be on alert for suspected symptoms: fever, respiratory complications, diarrhea, and abnormality of smell and taste. If they appear, please wear a medical mask, immediately seek medical attention at a nearby hospital for COVID-19 testing, and refrain from using any public transportation. When in the hospital for treatment, please voluntarily tell the physician your contact and travel history, potential occupational exposure to the virus, as well as people around you with similar symptoms. When you return home, please also wear a medical mask and avoid going out if not necessary.
.
Sincerely yours,
NTU Epidemic Prevention Team

So the big girl had a class excursion to the museum yesterday and came back to school at 4pm. Then the school admin officer called me to inform me that she had just vomitted and said "I know she goes home on her own but can you come to pick her up now?"
I definitely would have, if not for the fact that two younger ones were sleeping and it would have been a huge feat dragging two cranky ones out of the door with me in a couple of minutes. Would you have left them at home and dashed out? I didn't see it as an option at that time. So I told the staff my situation and said "I think she can still walk home, can you let her know I am waiting for her here?"
Very bad of this mum, right? I waited anxiously and felt guilty but relieved to see her home ten minutes later. She told me the vomitting was likely due to motion sickness from the travelling and I told her to take a shower and have a rest. After that, she had a light dinner, did her homework and went to bed early.
This morning, she woke up, had no appetite but went to school as usual with her sister. In less than half an hour, she called me and told me she was feeling dizzy. I asked if she wanted to take a rest in the sick bay and see how it goes or if she would want to come home and take the day off. She decided to take a rest and then twenty minutes later, called again to tell me "Mummy, I am better now. I will go back to class." It was a choice she made on her own but I'm so proud of her. She has to stay back in school again this afternoon yet somehow, a voice tells me that this girl will be all right.
It's a sign and reminder to me of how she is forced to grow up faster, be more mature and independent, and why I sometimes find it hard to deal with her strong-willed character. If anything, I made her this way and she is like a mini version of me. Just prettier, more artistic and even stronger.
May you always be able to pick yourself up after a fall and ride out the storm in life, my dear Angel.
P.S. Hopefully one day I can do an armstand like you. You are doing awesome, my dear.

University of Kent, Fine Art Degree Show,
21st – 31st May –2015
An exhibition of 26 exciting emerging artists in Kent
The University of Kent’s School of Music and Fine Art presents the Fine Art Degree Show 2016 in the extraordinary environment of The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent, featuring the work of 26 graduating BA and MA Fine Art students.
Opening with a preview on Saturday May 21st, 1pm-5pm,
with guest speaker, Patricia Bickers, writer, curator and editor of Art Monthly
and music from artist Benedict Drew.
The exhibition is open to all and is free to attend.
Open to the public (10am-5pm):
Sunday 22nd May
Tuesday 24th May - Tuesday 31st May inclusive.
Continuing a tradition of showcasing bold, exploratory exhibitions curated by the University of Kent’s Fine Art students, framed by the stunning backdrop of one of the country’s most iconic locations, the Historic Dockyard Chatham, our visitors will encounter a broad range of artistic styles and media, an explosion of imagination and a celebration of art’s potential for society.
This exhibition offers the public a fascinating insight into contemporary art’s most recent practices and processes such as a ‘Grand Design’ home evolved by a hoarder, an oozing conversation with the earth, a system of tunnels, angry letters about Gillingham’s Samurai sent to Medway council, a Dockyard worker’s fall down a well as sculpture, personal Facebook data becomes food, a dream-like exploration of the car industry, hand movements translated into Fibonacci sound, an autobiographical feature length film made on a mobile phone and a performance where the rules of tennis are applied to an exam.
The Degree Show’s aim is to encourage audiences to explore the potential of Medway as a dynamic hub for art, with the School of Music and Fine Art as a major conduit for these activities, positively impacting on the community and offering imaginative suggestions and visionary strategies for cultural regeneration.
As well as involving students from Kent, and across the UK, this year’s Degree Show exhibitors include student artists from Iran, Thailand, China, Russia, Italy, Cyprus, Mexico, Hong Kong, Isle of Man and Ghana.
The Fine Art Degree Show exhibition catalogue features texts by academics across a range of University of Kent Schools: Emily Rosamond, Grant Pooke, Simon Smith, Howard Griffin and Rebecca Hobbs.
Degree Show visitors can attend a wide range of exciting educational activities. Young people attending can also participate in workshops with some of the exhibiting artists. On Tuesday 24h May and Wednesday 25th May Education Days will be held for local schools and colleges. Attendees will be able to view the Show and hear talks from the artists; they will also be encouraged to produce their own artwork in response to their experience of the Show. If you would like to bring a school, college or university group to this event (all ages welcome) please email mfaadmissions@kent.ac.uk
Visitors to the Degree Show will also be able to visit the Historic Dockyard's thematic exhibition of international contemporary art works, "Of the Sea," a competition (in collaboration with the School of Music and Fine Art) whose jury panel includes Kathleen Palmer (Head of Art, Imperial War Museum), and Victoria Pomery (Director of Turner Contemporary, Margate).
