Online Schools Are Here to Stay, Even After the Pandemic
Rory Levin, a sixth grader in Bloomington, Minnesota, used to hate going to school. He has a health condition that often makes him feel apprehensive ( ) around other students. Taking special-education classes did little to ease his anxiety.
So when his district created a stand-alone ( ) digital-only program, Bloomington Online School, last year for the pandemic, Rory opted ( ) to try it. Now the 11-year-old is enjoying school for the first time, said his mother, Lisa Levin. He loves the live video classes and has made friends with other online students, she said.
In December, Bloomington Public Schools decided to keep running the online school even after the pandemic subsides ( ). Lisa Levin plans to re-enroll Rory for this fall.
“It is such a good fit ( ) for him,” she said. “We’re really hoping they can continue it for the rest of his school career.”
A year after the coronavirus set off ( ) a seismic ( ) disruption ( ) in public education, some of the remote programs that districts intended to be temporary are poised ( ) to outlast ( ) the pandemic. Even as students flock ( ) back to classrooms, a subset ( ) of families who have come to prefer online learning are pushing to keep it going — and school systems are rushing to accommodate ( ) them.
The districts are racing to set up full-fledged ( ) online schools even as concerns mount ( ) that remote learning has taken a substantial toll on ( ) many children’s academic progress and emotional health. Parents and lawmakers, alarmed by the situation, have urged ( ) schools to reopen.
Even so, at least several hundred of the nation’s 13,000 school districts have established virtual schools this academic year, with an eye to ( ) operating them for years to come ( ), education researchers said. Unlike many makeshift ( ) pandemic school programs, these stand-alone virtual schools have their own teachers, who work only with remote students and use curricula ( ) designed for online learning.
Yet a surge ( ) of online schools comes with risks. It could normalize remote learning approaches ( ) that have had poor results for many students, education researchers said. It could also further divide a fragile ( ) national education system, especially when many Asian, Black and Latino families have been wary ( ) of sending their children back to school this year.
“My fear is that it will lead to further fracturing ( ) and fragmentation ( ),” said Jack Schneider, an assistant professor of education at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

.
Kathleen Morlok

Little squirrel is drunk. She looks up to the sky after she accidentally eats old pear! It's an alcohol owner placed in Minnesota USA.
.
This incident happened in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, USA. Little squirrel ate pear, fermented intoxication and stabilized intoxication.
.
The homeowner Kathleen Morlok reveals that she put a pear outside her house. She saw a drunken, rocking around as she saw. Those pears were kept in the fridge for so long that the fermented herself into alcohol.
.
From the video, the squirrel is seen trying to stabilize his head, leaning, leaning, and continuing to eat his snack.
.
Kathleen Morlok reveals that this unexpected incident was caused by her trying to clear out her fridge and found an old pear bag which instead of dumping her, she put it on the table outside for her pet, a piggy. Name is Hamlet.
.
She revealed that in Minnesota the day was very cold and Hamlet ate food and came back in the house and didn't think there was a pear left outside the house until she saw a little squirrel eating happy food and ran back on top. Trees.
.
After that day she put more pear and the squirrel came back again. But this time was so intoxicated. It made her understand that pear was fermented into alcohol.
.
From this incident, the homeowner decided to leave the rest of the pear and she was very concerned about the squirrel.
.
The next day the squirrel was back to normal and was back to eat the same place.
.
Or maybe it's because the little squirrel might be addicted to the pear marinade. Watch the video at.
.
Long time leaving pear in the fridge can be fermented as a chemical change of food which can change tears, glucose, fractose and sucrose into alcohol.

OK. So when I was in junior high school, I lived in Kanazawa. Every junior high school has at least one native speaker to teach the students real English, and my junior high school was really small but there was one native speaker. I think he was an American teacher. His name was Bob. I think he was from the state of Minnesota. And I really liked that guy. I really liked him. He was a big man like American, and he made me curious about the life in America cuz we didn't have internet back then. So on his last day of his teaching term, I wanted to tell him, I wanted to say thank you to him. Actually I wanted to say more than just thank you. So the night before his last day, I was reading a dictionary, trying to come up with something to say to him. And I still remember it was "I had a good time with you". That was the phrase. And so the next day, very first in the morning, I went to teachers' room, and I found Bob sitting at his desk. And I came up to him and said "Good morning Bob. I had a good time with you. Thank you." But I wasn't sure what I said would make sense. But this big guy Bob, all of a sudden, put a big smile on his face, and said "I had a good time with you too. We're friends now.", and we shook hands. I was really happy. I was really happy to realize... first of all, I was so happy that my English made sense. And that's the time, that's the moment I realized how powerful a language is. How much a single phrase moves a person. So after that moment, English wasn't just a study for me. It was more like... it was more something human.

76ers coach Jim O'Brien figured keeping Allen Iverson on the court was the best way for his team to win.
Iverson played all 48 minutes and scored 19 of his 32 points in the first quarter, helping the Philadelphia 76ers snap a three-game losing streak with a 106-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.
Kenny Thomas added 20 points and 14 rebounds, a banged-up Iverson had 10 assists and Kyle Korver scored 15 for the Sixers, who hadn't won at home since Dec. 14.
"Over the last 16 games, Allen is shooting 46 percent, has a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio and is averaging 32 points. When he's off the court, we're shooting 37 percent," O'Brien said. "We've been playing him 42, 43 minutes. There's not much difference with 48."
Iverson missed a game last week with a strained ankle and is bothered by a shoulder injury.
"I'm struggling right now physically," Iverson said. "I haven't been able to practice. I just try to save everything for the game. Fortunately, I was able to do that tonight."
Donyell Marshall scored 20 points and Morris Peterson and Jalen Rose each had 18 for the Raptors, who are 6-7 since trading Vince Carter to New Jersey on Dec 17.
The Sixers pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 12-3 run. A 3-pointer by Korver off a nifty behind-the-back pass from Iverson put the Sixers ahead 92-83. Andre Iguodala capped the run with a jumper that made it 94-83.
Toronto didn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
"We took too many 3s and some at the wrong time," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said of his team shooting 10-for-32 from beyond the arc. "We had guys checking into the game and the first shot they took was a 3. You can't do that on the road. We just didn't play smart."
Iverson airballed his first shot, but hardly missed again in the opening quarter, making eight of his 12 shots, including three 3-pointers and a long jumper. He hit two 3s in the final minute of the quarter, and Iguodala beat the buzzer with another 3 from way beyond the arc.
"Allen got us going early and we just fed off him," said Korver, who shot 5-of-8 on 3-pointers.
Peterson, coming off a career-best 37-point performance Wednesday night against Boston in which he made seven 3-pointers, shot 6-for-12, including 1-for-5 from 3-point range.
The Raptors took a 71-66 lead in the third quarter, causing some fans in this football-crazed city to chant "E-A-G-L-E-S!" Philadelphia hosts Minnesota in an NFC divisional playoff game on Sunday.
