以上是本年度《華爾街日報》/《泰晤士高等教育》大學排名得出的部分結論。從這份榜單可看出，無論學生們最關注的是學術環境、在校參與度、職業機會，抑或是投資回報，他們都有豐富的選擇。

行表中，哈佛大學持續是美國大學的龍頭，史丹佛大學、麻省理工、UC柏克萊大學、及哥
倫比亞大學分別為今年全美前二到五名。

ology，看你同不同意它的項目跟比重，假設你同意80%的規則，那這個排行對你就有80%
的可信度。
迷排行、而且跟學生坐下來聊就直接開US News排行的，都是搞不懂狀況的外行代辦，學
校根本不是那樣認識的，遇到直接走就可以咯：）

My unpopular opinion：
1. 首先，美國有4000所post-secondary school，假設只算US News裡有資料的也有2000
所大學。#1 跟 #5 的差別在 5/2000=0.25%，這麼小的差距沒什麼好比的吧？
2. 比喻：女神榜第一名的女生不一定比第二名的女神更合適當女朋友，女神榜前100名的
女生可能都不會比一個同班女同學更合適當女朋友。意思是，選學校的因素可能不只是客
觀的「師生比」「學校名譽」等因素，可能也包含「哪個學校有我想要的資源」「我想在
什麼氣候跟環境讀書」這些主觀的原因。我覺得選校應該是一個認識學校、然後主觀的去
喜歡它的過程（申請文書也是問你 “why do you want to attend this college”，不
是要列facts而是描述你主觀的原因^^），不是看排名大家去搶著跟#1在一起。
但畢竟這個opinion在亞洲不受歡迎，so... 看看就好？:P

比較一下美國跟亞洲的申請輔導有多少是以排名（有的強調是US News排名）收費吧。美
國的比例上多很多是「匹配」，台灣多很多是以排名收費。如果一個學生合適在一所給全
額的state school做X研究，所以去讀state school，不去讀沒獎學金的普林斯頓，這是
知道自己要什麼，不是浪費青春。
「合適」vs「排名」也不見得誰對，兩派理念而已。
有概念一所學校有多好。看排名的一個危險就是學校可以操作排名，像這樣：

如果排名可以被操作，它的可信度就會被打折扣吧？

1. 因為100是整數，然後US News評比主要100所大學，之後的是range方式呈現（101-150
... 等），所以「百大」變成一個名詞
2. 很多升學機構會介紹10大，20大，30大，50大，100大等級距，可能也是因為是整數吧
？但美國學校有非常多：post secondary看你怎麼算，一共有4000-6000所，很多大學資
料的網站會有2000所左右。所以即使用最低的2000所大學去算，10大跟30大的差別只有1%
，我覺得這個級距小到去區分它很沒意義... 但很多家長學生迷排名，升學機構幾乎都是
為了賺錢business，所以就創造出很多很莫名其妙的規則，把簡單的事情複雜化，讓消費
者聽不懂，錢才好賺... ：）
