Now that I am teaching fewer class because of #socialdistancing , I have more time to connect with my #mentorshipworkshop graduates. A workshop that I have been teaching for the last 6 years to over 100 aspiring and passionate new yoga teachers in Hong Kong, I have been fortunate enough to work closely with these teachers who are curious and hardworking to make a name for themselves in this competitive and challenging industry.

In our recent discussion, these are some of their most common questions:
- how to stand out in a crowd of yoga teachers?
- how do I find confidence to teach?
- what kind of yoga teacher do I want to become?
- how to organise a workshop?
- how to define my own style?
- how can I give back to the yoga community?
- how do I design yoga class that will have students coming back?

And the list goes on. There’s no straight answer to these questions. Often times these new teachers remind me of me as a new teacher 10 years ago. I shared the same anxiety and worries as they do today. I asked the same questions that they ask me today. I made the same mistakes (perhaps more!) as they do today. But I wasn’t afraid to keep trying, and try doing things differently too.

One thing I’ve learnt, is that #balance is usually the answer to many many questions. When you find the right balance you find harmony. When you have harmony, you find focus. When you find focus, you find power.

Let me also share a secret, when you ask these questions, you often already have the answers yourself. But as one of the mentors for this workshop (together with @reebiesw and @delia.indrayoga ), our role is to give affirmations and sometimes a different perspective.

This might be a peculiar time for the yoga industry, but this is also the time to try new things, make mistakes, take some risks, find balance and figure out a way that works for you and your students.

One thing for sure, you don’t need to be the most flexible or strongest to do yoga. Feel free to use any props that might aid the poses that challenge you.

S.O.S @ix.luna.m 4 days ago and without me having to say much.. She gave me the guidance and affirmations i badly needed.. 😭 And the cards that came out with the messages from divine sources really spoke to me and spoke through me.. Until i cry wth 😂🙈
It has been easy the last one month with 3 kids and Josh falling sick.. The whole 2 weeks was insane. Work load was insane. Each kid see doc x 2-3 times.. The fees also crazy. Plus all the late payment from some projects and i'm just like.. 🌪⛈🌫 The gloom was so real.
Day in day out mood swing damn jialat, at night just force myself to clear more more more work on computer. I refuse to accept that if i try my hardest, i can't break out of this bad cycle i always find myself back in. I do not accept. So much self-disappointment, anger and indignity 🤯 So much feeling of a failure as a parent who is not able to give my kids security blanket.. In my head it feels like a hot mess constantly ☠️
It's like i forgot who i am, what i'm blessed with..

Have you ever spent time with someone and you feel like your energy has been drained? If all that person do most of the time is to bad-mouth someone, or judge your life or discourage you from achieving what you truly want, then you're with a toxic person.
Trust me, I don't mind spending a fortune to just STAY AWAY from this type of people.
Why You Should Avoid Toxic People?
1. They will drain your positive energy
Constant negativity from them creates a very negative vibe. So you won't feel lifted or elevated with their presence in your life. Them complaining about their life, giving up easily and always blaming others will create a very bad vibe around you.
It will feel completely opposite when you're with positive people. They will elevate your energy and make you not to give up easily and ask you to keep trying when things don't go how it should be.
2. They alter your thinking
Toxic people have their way to your brain where they will make you believe that it's better to give up than to try other ways. The more you spend your time around them, the more you will start to behave like them. Basically, your attitude will be changed.
You will be prone to do the bare minimum as you don't have the energy to fight the negative vibe. As I have mentioned earlier, congratulations, your energy has been fully sucked by those toxic people.
3. They love drama
Have you seen a group of people get together and gossip about others? They are toxic! Positive people usually won't have time to ridicule or gossip about others. They will be more into knowing your progress or they will be sharing their experiences and talk about beneficial stuff than waste the time to talk bad about others.
You grow with positive people and your growth will come to a halt with toxic people.
How I identify toxic people?
Once you feel like somebody is giving you the negative vibes, pressuring you to do something you're not comfortable with, or creating too much unnecessary drama, then they are toxic,
It's time to avoid them.

Apparently, stress and boredom cause you to indulge in your bad habits. I found it to be true as I always shop whenever I am stressed out.
It is a hell of habit as shopping kind of soothes me and makes me feel like I am doing something beneficial. In a way, I actually avoid thinking about that stressful moment.
But I end up wasting so much money and I don't even use most of the stuff that I bought.
How to stop bad habits?
1. Stop them from the root.
As I said my bad habit is to shop, so the root is the money. I made a budget and set a very limited amount of money to shop. So eventually I became well aware that I can't afford to shop because I am saving up for something else.
Before I did that budget, I used to blindly spend. I never actually cared to save up for anything. I always think "Oh, I would be able to manage it soon."
Only when I became mindful about my spending, I started being serious and took each spending into consideration whether it is vital or not.
2. Stop the distraction
Social media is made up of a world full of distractions and it is such eye candy to those who want to be spoilt. The number of ads I get for shopping is uncountable and the offers are so enticing that you will surely end up buying 4 mascaras from different brands at the same time when you don't even use one!
So what you do when this happens is STOP THE AD! There are buttons and settings around the ad where you can set it to " I don't want to see this". I did that to each and every ad I see about sales or offers until I got none.
The fewer sales I saw, the less I thought about SHOPPING.
3. Replace your bad habits
Some say you can't stop the bad habits, you can only replace it. Which makes a lot of sense. When you replace it, you will forget whatever you had before it. Instead of shopping, I can go to the gym or go for a walk instead. Exhaust me there, de-stress and completely distract myself.
I get an amazing body and I get to save so much money! What a winning situation right?

Most of the time, when you cry your heart out to others, the most they can advise you is "stay positive dear." Well, now what exactly stay positive means?
How do you even stay positive when all the emotions are compiling into massive energy and overwhelm you at the most unimaginable way?
1. Accept That "You Are Who You Are"
You are you. You can't change you and be what others are expecting out of you. If you are the person who likes to spend time all alone then don't take the extra initiative to change what you prefer.
Accept what you truly are. If you are clueless about you then study about your own self. Get to know you personally. When reading a novel makes you happy, nothing that others say is going to change your mind now. You know exactly why you are avoiding all the other plans and reading a novel now.
When you accept you as you are, nothing is going to kill the positivity that happens around you when you are doing your happy stuff. In fact, you will feel more confident and super positive as you know exactly why you're doing certain things in life.
2. Set A Goal To Reach
While you are surrounded by grey cloud, you would be able to see a path that leads you out of the grey cloud. Your Goal.
Yes, you would immediately be able to focus on your goal and ignore all the negativity around you. Focus on flourishing and enriching life.
If you are easily distracted, then make sure that each step, though it is a very small step brings you forward towards your goals.
3. Plan Your Day
Wake up to having plans each day. Don't wake up all lost and not knowing what to do. If can plan your day one day ahead. Have a list of things to do.
Wake up with the energy to accomplish things. If you feel like resting than rest well. No mood should make you feel weak. Have a reason to why you deserve the rest. If you feel low then distract yourself with another plan.
Meditate or something. Try downloading a new game on your phone. Try reading a new novel. Figure out what will keep you positive and active throughout the day. Plan it well.
4. Let go
Don't hold it anymore. Whatever that has been breaking you into pieces is now got to leave you. Sometimes, it is you who would have been holding on to it. Let it go.
Try living a life without that negativity and you will start noticing other unopened doors in life. Start to explore and discover other parts of life that you haven't figure yet.
Let the negativity go and start opening your eyes to all the positive things around you. Sometimes putting closure to your negativity will help you to move on fast. Do it.
